Dolores “Dee” Hirschman

Dolores “Dee” Hirschman

August 9, 1934 – October 22, 2022

Dee embarked on her journey of dancing with the Angels on Saturday, October 22, 2022.

As a life-long nurse and nursing home surveyor, Dee cared for others with compassion and was a strong advocate for the elderly. She began her nursing career as a labor and delivery nurse, and then worked in assisted living and nursing homes. She became the ultimate protector of nursing home patients by working as a State Nursing Home Surveyor for the State of Nebraska. After 40 years in a dedicated nursing career, Dee retired.

Dee was blessed to have 2 of most loving men in her life. She married Lyle Hirschman in 1954 and had 4 children. They were married for 36 years when he passed away September 1991. She met the next love of her life Karl Kerst. Dee and Karl spent their retirement years traveling to Padre Island in the winter, spending time at their South Dakota river home in the summer and then back to their Omaha home to be with their children and grandchildren. They were together for 18 years until Karl passed away in 2012.

Dee enjoyed dancing, travelling, games with family and lived life to the fullest. She moved to an independent retirement center for 6 years, then moved to the memory care unit at Marquis Place in Elkhorn, Nebraska.

A genuine fun and feisty lady, Dee’s presence was always a joy and will be deeply missed.

Preceded in death by beloved husband Lyle; granddaughter Hannah Rae Hirschman; parents Hudson and Esther Engle and long-term companion Karl Kerst.

Survived by children, Victoria Rist, Valerie (Jon) Ishii, Dale (Judy) Hirschman and Russell (Annette) Hirschman; thirteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren and many loving family members and friends.

I have so many fond memories of Dee: from Easter Egg hunts, mass production of pancakes, teaching my mom how to give me shots, piercing my ears and hosted my wedding shower! Blessed to have had her on my life!!

I’m just so glad she’s dancing in heaven and not singing!

I have so many wonderful memories of Dee and Lyle over the years. Here’s to hoping Lyle and Karl are waiting with “half a drink” to welcome her home.

My sincerest condolences to Vicky, Valerie, Dale, Russell, and their extended families on her passing. May she dwell in the house of the Lord forever. RIP, Dee.

Sorry about Dee. She was a very nice person and liked to dance and have fun. We had a great time in Minnesota a few years back.

Wonderful women who dealt with a steady of neighbor hood kids in and out of the house without even peep!
    You will be missed greatly.

My memory of Dee goes back many years..
See, Dee and Lyle were the only adults we could call by their names and not Mr or Mrs. They were the only family besides mine where we could walk into their house. Dee would always greet me by saying it’s Jeff Busch and have the biggest smile. She had a way of always making you feel welcome and that you were family. I remember when we went on fishing and camping trips and spent time sharing Thanksgiving and the holidays. . So to share our hearts and condolences is too hard. The Hirschmann fand are family. Life might have got away from each of us but I have a lifetime of memories.
