Donald A. Gross

December 12, 1934 – July 15, 2024

Our family mourns the loss of Donald Arthur Gross, 89, of Omaha, NE, who passed on July 15, 2024. Born on December 12, 1934, in Earling, IA, he was the son of the late William and Loretta (Freund) Gross. Don’s life was one marked by dedication, service, and love.

Don grew up in Earling, IA, and attended St. Joseph’s High School, graduating in 1952. Afterward, he went on to serve his country proudly in the Army for 2 years. He then furthered his education at Iowa State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering on May 29, 1964. Throughout his esteemed career, Don’s professional life was characterized by a meticulous dedication to his craft, working as an engineer for Valmont and Rexroth for over 30 years before retirement.

Donald was a devoted father and grandfather, and he especially loved spending time with his cherished grandsons. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, fixing up his homes, tinkering on cars, puzzles, and watching Jeopardy and the Cyclones any chance he got. Gregarious and quick-witted, Don was always willing to offer a helping hand and a word of advice to friends and family alike.

Don is survived by his son, Jeff Gross, and his wife, Jennifer Travinski-Gross of New York; daughter, Jennifer Bumsted of Omaha; grandsons: Jacob (Itaa), Joshua, and Lucas Bumsted, and Alexander Gross; sisters-in-law, Marlene Gross of Cedar Rapids and Diane Gross of Omaha; and many wonderful nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Francis, Bernard, and Melvin Gross; sister, Delores Sextro; sister-in-law, Connie Gross; brother-in-law, John Sextro; nephews: Jason, James, and Stephen Gross, and niece Terry Sextro.

VISITATION: Sunday, July 21, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. with a VIGIL SERVICE to follow at 7:00 p.m., West Center Chapel, 7805 West Center Road.

MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: Monday, July 22, 10:30 a.m., St. Patrick Catholic Church, 20500 W. Maple Road, Elkhorn, NE  A Luncheon  will follow at St. Patrick Catholic Church directly following the Mass.

Interment, 1:30 p.m., Omaha National Cemetery, 14250 Schram Road, Omaha, NE.
