Donald K. “Donny” Busenbark

Donald K. “Donny” Busenbark

March 28, 1963 – May 24, 2024

Donny was born in Omaha, Nebraska, the first child, grandchild, and great-grandchild in his family.   He attended St. James Grade School and then graduated from Roncalli High School in 1981 where he was a starter on the soccer team. After graduation, Donny attended the University of Nebraska for two years before he entered the military where he served for two years. Donny is preceded in death by his sister, Dawn Marie Busenbark. He is survived by his parents, Don and Diana Busenbark; his wife, Janet; and his three children: Emma (26), August (23), and Jacob (22). He worked for ConAgra 10 years and Kellogg’s 25 years, retiring in October 2020.

Donny was a GREAT guy. He loved and was loved by so many. He was a fun guy. He took pleasure in instigating many pranks and would lovingly tease those he knew. Whether it was a little comment thrown in the conversation about your rival sports team or how you asked him one time if he wanted peanut butter on his waffle. He lived a good life. Said he had no regrets. Said he loved his life. Donny was a family man.  He loved spending time with his family more than anything. His kids were his pride and joy. He loved playing with them when they were small. Throwing the football so they could dive into the couch or bean bag for the long catch across the living room. Showing and encouraging their interest. And sharing his interests with them. He shared his love of music frequently. He played the guitar every day. It was often the background noise in the house. He was the biggest Beatles fan out there and it never wavered. He was our rock. No matter what happened in our daily lives Donny was there when we got home to give us direction. He had a strong passion around anything he liked to do. He collected various sets of golf clubs from all the major players and would take them on the course to see if he could do them justice. And he did. He was a great golfer and loved spending time on the course with his buddies. Besides golf and music, he loved reading, watching old movies and playing/watching sports. He loved all the sports, especially soccer. His retirement days were busy following all his favorite teams on tv. He loved riding his red Triumph motorcycle through the hills just outside of town. He would take the kids or hop on the bike after mowing the lawn in the summer to cool off and relax. Most of all he loved hanging out with friends and family. Sharing a meal or a drink. Taking your money in a friendly game of poker. Having a lively conversation. He took a lot of joy in the simple act of living and brought a lot of joy to those who knew him.

Janet and family, I am so sorry to hear of Donny’s passing. He sounds like a wonderful husband, father and son that loved to live life to the fullest. You will all be in my prayers for the weeks ahead and my prayer will be for you to feel the loving arms of our Lord and Savior wrapped around you and you will realize He is walking right beside you.

Dear Janet, Emma, August, and Jacob,

I know that nothing will take away the pain of losing Donny so suddenly. With time, the pain of his loss will become easier. Just remember, he is no longer suffering now. Please know that I may not physically be able to be there with you all during this time, but you are in my thoughts and prayers.
