SKEAHAN-Donald L., was born in Wayne, NE, June 10, 1934, and died November 3, 2006 in Omaha. Don was the eldest of three children born to Edward and Natalie (Cartwright) Skeahan. He had one sister, Carleen (Dode) and one brother, James. Don married Rachel (Hespen) January 14, 1977. He has 5 children, 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Don graduated from Wayne High School in 1952 and attended Wayne State College receiving his Bachelor of Arts in Education degree. He received his Master of Arts from the University of Lincoln-Nebraska. Nearly all of Don’s professional career was in the education field. From 1956 until 1971 he held teaching, coaching and administrative positions in public schools in Nebraska and Iowa, During 1972-73, he served as Deputy Director of the State of Nebraska Department of Administrative Services. He joined the University of Nebraska-Omaha in 1973, and served at UNO until his retirement in 1994. During his tenure there, he held various administrative positions finishing his career as the Vice Chancellor for Educational Student Services. Don was active in many UNO activities and in 1987 was awarded the Chancellor’s Medal bestowed on those whose service has brought distinction to the University community. In 1988, Don was inducted into the North Central Hall of Fame for his long time support of UNO athletic teams and the North Central Conference. Don was a 32 K.C.C.H. Scottish Rite Mason. Also, he served on the Board of Trustees of the Omaha Home for Boys. Following his retirement from the University, Don and Rachel moved to Bella Vista, AR. Don was elected to the Bella Vista Village Property Owners Association (POA) serving three years and a member of the Bella Vista Community Church. Don enjoyed cooking, entertaining, traveling with Rachel, and most especially spending time with their children and grandchildren. Don is survived by his wife, Rachel, Bella Vista, AR; mother, Natalie Skeahan, Witchita, NE; children, Brian (Peggy) Skeahan, Kelso, WA, Brent Skeahan, Lincoln, Curt Jordan, Lisa (John) Anderson, and Kim (Mike) Aksamit, all of Omaha; sister, Carleen (Jerry) Little, Witchita, KS, and brother, Jim (Pat) Skeahan, Jefferson, OR.; grandchildren, Brent Jr., Philip, Zach, Chelsy, Alissa, John Jr., Jordan and Kaysen; great grandchildren, Brock and Bailey. He was preceeded in death by his father, Edward. A Memorial Service will be 11/7/06 at 1:30 PM at Northwest Hills United Church of Christ (93rd and Fort, Omaha). Another Memorial Service will be held in Bella Vista, AR, the date to be determined.
