Donald N. Mickells
Donald N. Mickells, 93, of Duxbury died peacefully at The Pat Roche Hospice House on January 2, 2024. He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Ann Marie Cormier Mickells of Duxbury, MA.
He was born in Omaha, Nebraska to the late Peter and Gabrielle Mickells. He is survived by his sister Dorothy Begley of Omaha, NE, his sister Irene Black and her husband Michael of Naples, FL, and many nieces, nephews, and their families. He was predeceased by his sister Helen “Sis” Stanek, and brothers-in-law Patrick Begley and Joseph Stanek.
Don graduated from Creighton Preparatory School and Creighton University in Omaha, NE. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War stationed in Japan and The Philippines. Upon honorable discharge, he received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, UN Service medal and ROK Presidential Unit Citation.
Don had a long business career in Group Insurance with The Prudential Insurance Company of America, beginning in Minneapolis, then Chicago, and finally transferring to Boston. He retired as a Group Insurance Account Executive.
Don was a lifelong golfer and enjoyed playing golf more frequently after retirement at The Country Club of Halifax. During his retirement years he volunteered in hospitals and homeless shelters, as well as serving in several different church related ministries. He was a Eucharistic Minister at Holy Family Church in Duxbury, where he also served as an acolyte at funerals.
Throughout their marriage, Don and Ann travelled extensively in the U.S., Europe, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Their favorite trips were to Russia and twice to The Holy Land and Egypt.
Visitation: Sunday, January 7, 2024, 2:00 – 5:00 PM at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St. (Rt. 106) Kingston MA. Mass of Christian Burial: Monday, January 8, 2024, 11:00 AM at Holy Family Church, 601 Tremont St, Duxbury MA. Funeral mass will also be live-streamed at www.holyfamilyduxbury.org.
Visitation: Thursday, January 11, 2024, 4:00 – 6:00 PM, followed by a Vigil: 6:00PM, West Center Chapel. Interment: January 12, 2024, 11:00 AM, Resurrection Cemetery, Omaha, Nebraska. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Catholic Relief Services at crs.org.

So sorry to hear of Donald’s death. He will be missed and remembered by all he touched.
Sorry I wasn’t able to come to the visitation. Donald had a good, long life and will be missed.
