Donna L. Scanlan

Donna L. Scanlan

February 17, 1934 – December 1, 2020

Donna Scanlan of Omaha passed away December 1, 2020 at UNMC from the Covid 19 virus.  Donna loved Family, her Catholic faith, Music and being a Nurse.

Born in Lindsay, Nebraska and a graduate of Creighton University, Donna was preceded in death by parents, Lumir and Mary Teresa Ruzicka; brother, Lou Ruzicka Jr.; sisters, Florene Pierson and Mary Bierman.

She is survived by husband of sixty- four years, Bernie Scanlan; daughter, Trish Scanlan; son, Mike Scanlan (Arlis); grandchildren: Ben, Mitch, Kate Fuxa (Colby) and Claire Scanlan, nieces and nephews and Our Lady of Lourdes Church Choir and Parishioner family.

Donna was dedicated to what she loved shown in her 45-year nursing career with St Jo / Creighton Hospital, over 50 years serving Our Lady of Lourdes making music and being married for 64 years.  Yes, she has left a huge void for all of us.

She was an eternal optimist and loved being around people.  Her optimism was represented by some of her favorite songs, Smile, You Make Me Feel So Young and I’ll Be Seeing You.  She also loved the hymns from each branch of the military.  It wasn’t planned but we know she will be delighted that her final resting place will be at the new Veterans Cemetery, Omaha National as Bernie is a veteran of WWII.

We are all devastated with losing a wife, mom, grandma and friend but we have gained a guardian angel and know she will be making music in heaven.  I put her special organ shoes and glasses with her in her casket.  🎶🎶

VISITATION observing CDC guidelines: Friday, December 11th from 5pm to 7pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church (2110 S. 32nd Ave.) followed by VIGIL SERVICE at 7pm.  MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: Saturday, December 12th at 10am, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.  Interment: Monday, December 14th at 1pm at Omaha National Cemetery. Memorials will be directed by the family.

May the angels lead her into paradise,
May the martyrs come to welcome her
And take her to the Holy City
    The New and Eternal Jerusalem
May the choirs of angels welcome her
Where Lazarus is poor no longer rest
    May she have eternal rest.
    Amen.

The Borer Family from Lindsay send our sincere condolences and prayers for Donna and we are keeping Bernie, Trish, Mike and the family in our thoughts. There are many family memories of the Ruzikas, Scanlans, Biermans, Piersons and the visits we would make with Dad and Grandma Margaret Borer to Omaha. We are so sorry for your loss.
