In Loving Memory of Doris McBride

Doris McBride, born on December 25, 1930, in Owensboro, Kentucky, to Mary Ellen and William Castlen, passed away on March 2, 2025. Doris was the seventh of ten children, with eight brothers and one sister.

On June 29, 1950, Doris married JM McBride. Together, they shared a loving and fulfilling life, primarily residing in Boys Town, NE, where both worked and contributed to the community. They were blessed with six children. Upon their retirement, the couple moved to Wahoo, NE. After JM’s passing, Doris relocated back to Omaha until July 2018, at which time she moved to Brookstone Village, where she spent her final days.

Doris never knew a stranger. She had a passion for gardening and photography and was known for her heartfelt letters and jokes, which she regularly sent to military members, nieces, nephews, and other family and friends. She cherished playing checkers and other games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her sister, Joann Galloway of Owensboro, KY; and her children: Therese Bysel of Kansas City MO, J. Michael McBride of Omaha NE, Patrick McBride of Syracuse NY, Anne Jonas (Donald) of Wahoo NE, Gregory McBride (Kim) of Omaha NE, and Cathy Bowen (Mike) of Omaha NE. She leaves behind thirteen grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Ellen and William Castlen; her husband, JM McBride; her son-in-law, Bill Bysel; and her brothers: Robert, Paul, Roy, Elwood, Eugene, Leo, Tony and Donald.

Special thanks to Staff at Brookstone Village for these past several years for all their love and support and to Suncrest Hospice during these past few months for all their loving care.

My prayers are with your family as you say goodbye to your dear mom, she was a fine and unique lady, will miss getting her cards and letters in the mail and deciphering her shorthand, my kids had fun with reading all the little jokes and quotes that she would send! I have saved a few of them just so I can go back and look and remember. God bless you all!

My condolences to the family for your loss. My prayers are with everyone during this difficult time. I worked at Boys Town with Therese many years ago and had the pleasure of meeting Therese’s mother, Doris. My thoughts will be with you as you travel this new journey without your loved one.
