Dorisruth Hambley Cutler

CUTLER, Dorisruth Hambley, age 79 years, Omaha (Bellevue), died 10/20/08. Daughter of George Verne Hambley and Ruth Irene Sharp of Pullman, MI. Born July 19, 1929 in Grand Junction-Lee Township, MI, the second oldest of six children. Her husband, Donald Ira Cutler, preceded her in death on Dec. 24, 2003. They were married in Allegan Co., MI, at the Sharp Family Farm on Oct. 14, 1951. They finally settled in Bellevue, NE, for the past 42 years. She was a lover of poetry, books, politics and family. She graduated from West Suburban Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago in 1950, and was a devoted nurse with over 50 years of service. Twenty of these years were spent proudly at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Omaha. She was president of the Nurses Union for a time. She received her BA in Psychology. After retiring from the VA Hospital in January of 1993, she missed nursing, and so returned to work at Bellevue Hillcrest Care Center, retiring again 3 years later. She was a dedicated member of Omaha’s REASON Group. She was preceded in death by her parents and by a brother, Delbert Hambley. She is survived by her children: Dennis Cutler (Eileen), Rebecca Cutler, Estheruth Miller (David), Harry Cutler (Hope); grandchildren: Heath Cutler (Stephanie), Eric Cutler, Kyle Miller, Monica Miller, and Steven (Williams) Cutler; siblings: George Verne Hambley Jr. of Watervliet, MI, Harold Hambley (Barbara) of Pullman, MI, (Shirley) Hambley of Kalamazoo, MI, Ed Hambley (Judy) of Vicksburg, MI, Russell Hambley (Sara) of Holland, MI; cousins: Margery (Farrington) Krider of Bellevue, NE, Joyce (Hambley) Preti of Topock, AZ, Bill Hambley of Brevard, NC, Evelyn (Hambley) Bona of Englewood, FL; and many more. SERVICES Thursday, 1:30 p.m., First Unitarian Church, 3114 Harney. Memorials to Planned Parenthood or American Cancer Society. The family will receive friends Wednesday, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the West Center Chapel.
