Dorothea Mae Newman

Loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother went to be with the LORD on October 20, 2017 at Hospice House in Omaha. Dorothea is survived by her husband, Alfred A. Newman, Jr.; son, Barry Newman (Deb); daughter, Cherilyn Wicks (Jerry); six grandchildren: Matt Newman (Taylor), Kelsey Schiltz (Adam), Jordan Newman, Ben Wicks (Anna), Andrew and Jacob Wicks; great-grandson, Hudson Newman; sister, Marilyn McCormick (Keith); brother, John Jones (Mary); sister-in-law, Ruth Jones; many friends, nieces, nephews, and cousins, She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Leona Jones; sister, Mable Powell (Johnnie); brother, Wilmer Jones; brother-in-law, Richard Snow; sister-in-law, Janice Jones.
Dorothea was born at Gregory, SD and grew up on a ranch. She graduated from Winner High School in 1953 and attended Black Hills Teacher College at Spearfish, SD, and then established the first Kindergarten in Chamberlain, SD. In 1957 she married Alfred A. Newman, Jr. and they moved to Lincoln, NE where Dorothea taught Kindergarten and went to UNL in Lincoln, earning her Bachelor of Education Degree. She also taught in Grand Island, North Loup-Scotia, NE, and Estherville, IA where she completed her 35th year of teaching and retired in 1995. Dorothea will always be remembered for her great love for GOD, family, and country. Her main goal in life was to honor JESUS in all she did and to let her light shine for HIM.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 24th from 5pm to 7pm at the West Center Chapel, 7805 W. Center Rd. SERVICES Wednesday, Oct. 25th at 10:30am at Christ Community Church, 404 S. 108th Ave. Interment, Mount Auburn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Great Commission Fund at Christ Community Church; the Open Door Missions of Omaha; and the Bible Broadcasting Network.
