Dorothy Mae Adamson
September 3, 1944 – June 23, 2024
Dorothy passed away in the early morning hours of June 23, 2024.
Her death followed a complicated course of illness.
Dorothy was born September 3, 1944, in Springfield, Missouri, to her parents, Jeanette and Donald McFarlin. She and her older sister, Donna, grew up in Springfield, where they graduated from Central High School, and each attended Southwest Missouri State College.
After college, Dorothy went to California in 1966 to work in Education. Dorothy was an elementary school teacher for a number of years in the Anaheim area. After some time as a teacher, Dorothy got into administration, becoming an Elementary School Principal, and eventually the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for the Anaheim City School District. Dorothy loved teaching and being involved in education and the lives of children. She made numerous cherished and lifelong friendships throughout her years in this profession.
Dorothy had a zest for living… she relished the social life! While living in the Buena Park area, Dorothy was a member of her local country club, and she loved being active there. Her desire for golf was quite recognizable, as she would play every chance she got, and enjoyed the ladies golf groups that she participated in. Dorothy also delighted in the community aspects of her club, including lunches, themed parties, dinners and dancing! Dorothy also enjoyed traveling over the years and had many wonderful excursions with various family and friends.
Dorothy was a wonderful soul and had numerous friends and acquaintances over the years. She had a wonderful presence and people were drawn to her. She was a kind and sweet woman, and had a way of making people feel special.
Dorothy’s family was very important to her. Her sister, Donna, was her best friend and lifelong confidant. They were extremely close and spoke every day- sometimes multiple times a day! Dorothy played a very special part in Donna’s family, attending numerous family functions and holidays over the years. The entire family always loved going to California and visiting Dorothy. She was very much a part of their lives and will be greatly missed.
Dorothy is survived by her four nieces and nephews: Rob Mullin, James Mullin, Molly Winge, and Mary Jane Marcino, and their families; along with her brother-in-law, Robert Mullin.
She was preceded in death by husband, Bob Adamson; sister, Donna (McFarlin) Mullin; and parents, Jeanette and Donald McFarlin.

Dorothy and I were friends in high school and college, we both were Alpha Delta Pi’s at Missouri State. We stayed in contact over the years, visiting each other in person and by phone. Will miss her! Dorothy had a zest for life and enjoyed her adventures. I know her last few years were hard on her…….she wasn’t one to have to be confined. She thought the world of the 4 of you. I know how much she missed Donna. I was so sad to hear of Dorothys passing. Thoughts and prayers to you and your families. 🙏🏼 Hugs, Voncille
Dorothy and I were also very good friends in High School and college. We were cheerleaders together in both high school and college. We were in a high school sorority together and were Alpha Delta Pis at Missouri State. We spent hours chasing after boyfriends and having fun in high school. WE kept in touch over the years by phone and rooming together at High School reunions. She was and always will be my dearest friend, . I will miss her. I know she loved all of you and she especially missed Donna.. She hated not being able to get out and do things with friends and doing her golf! My thoughts are with all of you.
