Dorothy Zitka was born in Plattsmouth, Nebraska on June 23, 1917.  She was the second youngest of a family of eight children. Shortly after the birth of her younger sister, their father died of an accident while working for Burlington Northern Railroad.  Her mother was left to raise the family by herself.  To survive, everyone in the family worked in one way or another, besides attending school.  While she was growing up, the family lost one of Dorothy’s sisters and one of her brothers to disease and an accident.

As a young woman, Dorothy worked in her brother Ernie’s South Omaha grocery store, where she was eventually introduced to Clarence Paskach, a member of another South Omaha grocery family. The two of them were married shortly thereafter, and eventually had one son, David.

Clarence passed away shortly after the birth of their second grandchild in 1986.  Dorothy lived by herself through 2010, when she moved to Sunrise Senior Living here in Omaha, where she lived until she passed away on January 19th, 2018.

Dorothy’s family wishes to thank the staff at Sunrise Senior Living for all their kindness and care over the years.
