Dorothy J. “Dottie” Tilson

June 22, 1934 – August 8, 2018

Dottie was born in Woodbine, Iowa on June 22, 1934 to George and Lucy Wagner.  She had four brothers and four sisters.  She went to Woodbine schools all her life and graduated in 1954.  Dottie married Jesse R. Culver on December 10, 1954.  Helen was born on February 24, 1956; Debra was born on February 26, 1958; and Lorrie was born on September 10, 1959.  On December 25, 1961 Dottie and girls came to Omaha, where she divorced Jesse.  Soon after, she met Fred Tilson and they married on October 13, 1963.  Her youngest daughter, Eileen, was born on August 24, 1964.  Dottie later divorced Fred in 1966 and raised her daughters with the help of her sister, Carol Jean.

She had several jobs to support her girls.  Many of those years she waitressed at Leisure Lanes, and during the later years she worked in the deli at Albertson’s and Bag N Save Supermarkets.  For the past 45 years she resided in Ralston, where everyone enjoyed her Fourth of July parties.  In her younger years she enjoyed bowling with family and friends.  You could always find her out in her garden or painting around the house.  She enjoyed collecting angels and now she is with the angels.

Dottie is survived by her daughters: Helen Culver, Debby Lyman (Richard), and Lorrie Painter (Jeff); sisters, Carol Adams and Mary Mefferd; grandchildren: Cory Painter, William Zimmerman (Claire), Dennis Rhodes (Eric), Glen Knight (Nicole), Christopher Painter, Kyle Walpus, Kristen Mahrholz (Nick), and Raven Walpus (Anthony Van Stratten); great-grandchildren: Emmy Brown, Roy Brown, Brylan Mahrholz, Aven Mahrholz, Anthony Zimmerman, Benjamin Zimmerman, Charlea Zimmerman, Keegan Zimmerman, and Layla Zimmerman.  She was preceded in death by her daughter, Eileen Walpus, and by brothers and sisters: Betty Bacon, LeRoy Wagner, Eve Enos, Darrel Wagner, Dwaine Wagner, and Alan Wagner.

The family will receive friends on Monday, August 13th from 6pm to 8pm at the West Center Chapel.  SERVICES: Tuesday, August 14th at 11am, West Center Chapel.  Interment, Evergreen Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to Lydia House.

    Debby and family, sorry for your loss. Loosing your mother leaves an emptiness that never leaves completely. Dottie was a very sweet lady and she loved her family with all her heart. When ever I would see her she would just bubble with quick updates on you all. She was a hard worker and a joy to interact with. God’s blessings and prayers for peace in your hearts. Love, Cathy
