Dorothy M. Hansen

Dorothy M. Hansen

April 4, 1931 – February 10, 2025

Dorothy Martha Hansen was born to William and Dora Sullivan (née Ruge) in Omaha, Nebraska, on April 4, 1931. The younger of two children, she adored her big brother, Walter.

After graduating from Omaha South High School in 1949, Dorothy fell in love with her husband of 56 years, Robert (Bob) Hansen, and they married on August 8, 1952. They ultimately settled in Omaha where Dorothy taught 2nd and 3rd graders at St. Gerald’s Catholic School. After several years of teaching, Dorothy and Bob started their family with the adoption of their first daughter, Nancy Anne.

Following the death of Nancy in 1966, Dorothy and Bob adopted three more children, all of who survive Dorothy: Michelle Davies (Bob), Judy Cline (Sam), and Lori Collins (Cameron). Dorothy’s daughters were her reason for living, and nothing gave her greater joy until the birth of her beloved granddaughter, Megan Davies.

Throughout life, Dorothy found comfort in her Catholic faith and dedicated herself to the teaching of children. Once her daughters were in school, she became CCD coordinator at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Bellevue, NE and later, St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Papillion, NE.

In her later years, Dorothy loved outings with her daughters including shopping, dining out, and road trips. She especially loved her many trips to the Big Island of Hawaii and returning to her hometown of Omaha.  She was active in three Red Hat Society groups, and she enjoyed going to thrift stores collecting antiques, dolls, and tea pots.

Dorothy spent her final days surrounded by family, love, and prayers. She passed away peacefully on February 10, 2025. Her family takes comfort knowing that she is now with Jesus and her loved ones in heaven.
