Condolences to the entire Vavra family. I got to work with Doug for 20+ years. He was someone people looked up to. He worked hard and always did the right thing to take care of customers. He was a prankster, mentor, and a good friend. He gave me a few Kentucky Derby winners over the years. More importantly, I know how much his girls and grandkids meant to him. Rest easy friend.

I had the pleasure of working with Doug for 25 years. Doug was a great guy all around. I met him first in the late 80s when he worked at Nebraska Warehouse and hired him when we built our distribution center in 1992 on F Street. Everyone loved Doug. He was a hard worker and always was a good example for others. I would always tease him and say I needed him to learn different parts of our operations (I knew he just wanted to be left alone to “sling water” as he would put it). He would always respond with a long – eaaassssyyy. I still say that to this day. My thoughts and prayers are with all his family. Rest well my friend Doug.

It was so sad to hear of Doug’s passing. Doug and i grew up together infar east Omaha ,off of Bancroft school. Doug and i were always pranksters and were always joking around. I remember Doug being a great baseball player and he had quite the accurate arm. We attended High school together and still learned alot and still joked together. He will be missed. – Pat

My condolences to the whole Vavra family. Doug was one of a kind for sure. In the 5-6 years I got to know him from work, he was a pleasure to work with. Always one of the few you could always count on for leadership and to lend a helping hand. He will be missed !! RIH Dougie
