Dr. Richard L. Triplett

Triplett, Dr. Richard L. March 8, 1934 – June 3, 2010 Bellevue. Richard was born in Kearney, NE, to Ivan and Helena (Wenzlick) Triplett, who owned and operated Triplett Sand & Gravel Company of Odessa, NE. He attended Kearney Public Schools and graduated in 1952 with a music scholarship to Ohio State University. In December of 1953 Richard joined the Army and shortly afterwards in February 1954 married Kay Freburg. To this union 3 children were born — Kim, Deon and Bryce. Graduating in 1958 from Kearney State College he worked the family sand and gravel business while continuing his education. He holds Master and Doctorate Degrees in Educational Administration from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, NE. In 1961, moving to Maywood, NE, he was the Business Instructor and was appointed Superintendent in 1964. That next year he received an administrative internship with Bellevue Public Schools. One year later, he was appointed Assistant Superintendent for Business and was ultimately appointed Superintendent, where he remained until his retirement. Keeping his roots with the family business, in 1974 he and his wife Kay purchased Triplett Sand & Gravel Co. from his parents and changed the name to T & F Sand and Gravel, Inc. They remained owners of the company until turning it over to their daughter in 1985. His community involvement includes Bellevue Parent Teacher Association, Bellevue Education Association, Bellevue College Board of Directors, Offutt Advisory Council, SAC Museum Board of Directors, Bellevue Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, University of Nebraska President’s Advisory Council, Nebraska Center for Educational Excellence Board of Directors, Metropolitan Omaha Educational Consortium Board of Directors, Nebraska Association of School Administrators Past President, Military Impacted Schools Association CEO, and National Council of Federally Impacted School Districts Board of Directors. Among his many recognitions include Nebraska Superintendent of the Year, “The Executive Education 100”, Distinguished Alumni Award, Bellevue-Nebraska and National PTA Life Membership Awards,Distinguished Service Award, Outstanding Service to the Community Award, Bellevueite of the Year, Boss of the Year, and Man of the year. After retiring from Bellevue Public Schools in 1994, he enjoyed music, antiquing, genealogy, travel, fishing, grandsons, family and friends. Preceded in death by, father, Ivan Triplett; mother, Helena (Wenzlick) Triplett; grandson, Brad Follmer, brother, Lloyd Triplett. Survivors include, wife Kay (Freburg) Triplett, Bellevue, NE; sons, Deon Triplett, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Bryce Triplett and wife Donna, Bellevue; daughter, Kim Triplett, Kearney, NE; grandson, Beau Follmer, Kearney, NE; great granddaughter, Reese Follmer, Kearney, NE; great-grandson, Kyce Follmer, Kearney, NE; sister, Germaine and husband Willie Barbier, Henderson, CO; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends. VISITATION Sunday, June 6, at Bellevue Memorial Chapel, Bellevue, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. FUNERAL SERVICE Monday, June 7, 10:30 am at First Presbyterian Church, Bellevue.
