Duane “Bud” Wilwerding

Duane “Bud” Wilwerding

February 17, 1943 – April 24, 2025

Duane C. “Bud” Wilwerding, 82, of Omaha, Nebraska, passed away at home surrounded by family on April 24, 2025.

Bud was born Duane Charles Wilwerding on February 17, 1943, to Carl and Irene (Rosman) Wilwerding on a farm near Earling, Iowa. He was baptized at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling, Iowa, and confirmed at St. Peter’s in Defiance, Iowa. Bud attended various schools in the area, where he developed a strong work ethic and a no-nonsense attitude that would later define his life.

On April 18, 1964, Bud was united in marriage to Sandra Bedel at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wall Lake, Iowa. Together, they built a life centered on family, hard work, and faith.

Bud was a dedicated paint contractor who opened Wilwerding Painting with his brother Larry in the 1970s. Known for his reliability and skill, he earned the respect of both his clients and peers. When he wasn’t working, Bud enjoyed casting a line while fishing or playing a lively game of cards with friends and family and working on an endless list of projects.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Irene; siblings Richard, Ivo (and his wife, Darlene), Phyllis (and her husband, Roger), Jane, and Maxine; and brothers-in-law Marvin Jablonski, Ed Blum, and John Thraen.

Bud is survived by his loving wife, Sandra; and their children: Diane (Jerry) Plagge, Don (Angie) Wilwerding, Julie (Justin) Zetterman, and Debbie (Andrew) Johansen. He was a proud grandfather to: Michael (Lauren), Jonathan, Joshua, Tyler, Ashley, Emily, Allison, Turner, Anna, Alicia, Jake, and Audrey; a great-grandfather to Natalie and Olivia. He is also survived by siblings: Norma Jablonski, Jolene Blum, Judy Thraen, Carol (Don) Eagle, and Larry (Sharon) Wilwerding; sister-in-law, Shirley Wilwerding; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Bud will be remembered for being a man of his word, for leading an honest, hardworking life, and for his love for his family, who always knew he loved them too.
