Dwane E. Dahl

The Lord called Dwane E. “Eldon” Dahl to his heavenly home on his 88th birthday, Thursday, Aug. 6, 2015. Dwane was born Aug. 6, 1927, in Fort Dodge, to Raymond and Evelyn (Fletcher) Dahl. He lived in Fort Dodge and surrounding towns until 1945, when the family moved to Estherville. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1948. On Feb. 26, 1949, Dwane was united in marriage to Mary Belle “Blondie” Zitterich in Jackson, Minnesota. The couple married in a double wedding ceremony with Jack Rogers and Lois Zitterich, Blondie’s older sister. During their 43 years of marriage, Dwane and Blondie were blessed with two daughters, Katheryn and Patricia. Dwane worked at the Fort Calhoun Stone Company for many years. He loved riding motorcycles and spent many hours traveling all over the country with friends. He retired in 1990, and Blondie passed away April 24, 1992, following a short battle with cancer. A mutual friend introduced Dwane to Ellen Peterson, and they were united in marriage June 3, 1995, in Missouri Valley. Dwane and Ellen enjoyed fishing, camping and gardening. Dwane also loved going to stock car races, and driving fast cars and motorcycles. He was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Logan. He loved his family and friends, his little “Million Dollar Dog,” Bud, and his Yellow Naped Amazon Parrot. Dwane lived life to the fullest. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Blondie, an infant daughter, an infant son, and brothers Donald, Kenneth, Marvin “Bud” and Richard “Red” Dahl. Left to cherish Dwane’s memory are his wife, Ellen Dahl, of Magnolia; two daughters, Kathy Niedermyer, also of Magnolia, Patty (Kevin) Whisney, of Logan; one stepson, Andy (Dawn) Adams, of Logan; one brother, Dale Dahl, of Benson, Minnesota; two sisters, Elaine (Tom) Anderson, of Laurens, and Vivian (Pete) Peterson, of Estherville; mother-in-law, Tillie McEvoy, of Logan; seven grandchildren, Jerrod (Angela) Niedermyer, of Austin, Texas, Ryan Niedermyer and Diane Paulsen, of Bennington, Nebraska, Ashley Niedermyer and Matt Wilson, of Council Bluffs, Michael (Dani) Whisney, of Bennington, Nebraska, Adam Whisney, of Ames, Grant Whisney, of Logan, and Hayley Whisney, of Logan; two step-grandchildren, Michael Adams, of Missouri Valley, and Amanda Adams, of Champaign, Illinois; five great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and friends. Dwane’s family gratefully acknowledges your attendance and kindness evidenced in thought and deed, and by expressions of sympathy, cards, flowers and memorials. They invite you to join them for lunch in the fellowship hall at Immanuel Lutheran Church following interment. A Prayer Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Logan Memorial Chapel in Logan, Iowa. Military Honors will be conducted by the VFW Post 6256 and O’Hara Seeley Post. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Magnolia Fire Department.
