E. Roberta Roach

E. Roberta Roach, born October 3, 1929 in Omaha, NE died December 24, 2017 in Omaha, NE. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Hubert Roach in 1966.  She was the daughter of Raymond F. Horn and Doris V. Jamieson. Also preceding her in death her in death: brother, Raymond F. Horn Jr., and sisters Theodora Rossiter and Ramona Hayes.  Her brother, Stephen P. Horn of Blair, NE survives her. Also surviving her are nine children: Jean Roach of Omaha, Jeffrey (Sheryl) Roach of Omaha, Mark Roach (Gail) of Damascus, OR, Christine Villotta (Thomas), of Omaha, Paul Roach, of Lincoln, NE, Patrick Roach (Robbie) of Happy Valley, OR, Victoria (Mark) Petersen of St Charles, IL, Phillip Roach (Maria) of La Vista, NE, and Nicholas Roach of Omaha. She was the grandmother of 16 children and 11 great-grandchildren.

Roberta graduated from St Joseph School of Nursing in 1950 with an RN degree; in 1979 she earned a BS from the University of Nebraska at Omaha with Magna Cum Laude honors.  She was employed at Bergan Mercy Hospital for 19 years and in 1989 won the Caring Kind Employee of the year.  She was an early member of the St Martin de Porres Club at Creighton University where she met her husband.  Together they became active in the Christian Family Movement in the early 1960s working with Black Interfaith groups, and other faith-based organizations such as Cursillo and Cana.   Roberta was an EME for Christ the King Parish.  She was also a member of the Nebraska Chapter of Alliance for the Mentally Ill, giving talks at hospitals and helping draft legislation and awareness about caring for the Mentally Ill.  In her spare time, she was a member of a Writer’s Group and enjoyed Genealogy and travel, especially to Scotland, Ireland, Switzerland, Germany and Africa.

The family will receive friends on Friday, Jan. 5th from 5pm to 7pm at Christ the King Catholic Church, 656 S. 86th St., followed by VIGIL SERVICE at 7pm.  MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL on Saturday, Jan. 6th at 10am at Christ the King Catholic Church.  Interment, Calvary Cemetery.

    I worked with Roberta for her time at Bergan. She was a kind, caring nurse who cared for her patients in body, mind, and spirit! Prayers and sympathy to all her kids and family!
