Edgar William “Bill” Hagerty
September 24, 1932 – February 26,2025
Edgar William “Bill” Hagerty was born to Dolly Grace and Edgar Clyde Hagerty in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on September 24, 1932. Bill grew up in Charleroi, Pennsylvania, and joined the Navy during the Korean War, serving as a hospital corpsman attached to the Marines. He married Joann Didik, and, in time, they had four children.
During his long career with United Parcel Service, the family moved from Pennsylvania to Ohio, then to Iowa and, finally, to Nebraska as Bill was promoted to management positions. After retiring at 55, Bill and Joann travelled and lived in Florida where Bill enjoyed golfing and hit a hole in one. They started Omaha businesses, Crystal Lady Antiques, and later, Hagerty Storage, in Ralston, which Bill ran until his death.
A loving, generous husband and father, a proud veteran, a classic car collector, and a great storyteller, Bill made many friends and helped many in need over the years.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Eileen Hagerty Irvine.
He is survived by the love of his life and his wife of 66 years, Joann; children Cynthia (Michael) Catherwood, Marcie (Eric) Bergquist, and Edgar Hagerty, Jr.; son-in-law Michael Irvine; grandchildren Larissa (Andrew) Meyers, Ian Churchill, Nikolai and Cole Irvine; great grandchildren Grace and Elliot Meyers.

My sincere condolences to you and your family.
I knew Bill through UPS. He was at UPS in Council Bluffs when I was hired as center clerk there. I always admired his strong work ethic and remember him being direct and a “to the point” kind of guy. You always knew what was expected of you. He may have seemed tough but he was very fair.
I last saw him at a breakfast meeting of retired UPSers a few years ago in Council Bluffs. I learned some very valuable lessons from him for which I will always be grateful.
May the memories of your loved one bring you comfort during this challenging time. I am so sorry for you loss.
Bill taught me a lot as a UPS employee and management positions. I was moved around quite a bit but every time was a step up. When he would come to Spencer he would see my wife and she would give us a heads up that he was in town. He was the Division manager and he promoted me to Manager . I will always think of him as a mentor. Rest in peace.

Joann and family. Sorry to hear about Bill’s passing. He retired the year before I arrived in Omaha but I did get to see him on the golf course and at times shared a meal with some other UPS retirees. Fortunately I was able to reach him by phone a few weeks back and shared with him that I had put him on our church prayer chain. We prayed for God’s comfort and God’s peace for Bill and for you and the family in this time of loss.
Joann and family- Our condolences to your family on the loss of Bill. I enjoyed my visits with Bill at the Storage office and lunches in LaVista. I was a UPS driver years ago so we always had plenty to talk over. He will certainly be missed. May God bring your family peace and comfort. Mike and Dawn Banks
Heartfelt condolences to the Hegarty family. I had been an hourly employee for 16 years when I met Bill. I was interested in management and Bill must have seen the potential in me. For the next 21 years , I was graced with opportunities in operations, safety, and security departments. I am grateful for Bill’s faith in me and will always remember his smile and chuckles. Rest in peace.
Bill and Joann and I graduated together from Charleroi High School in 1951.
I enjoyed chatting with Bill by phone and I will miss those conversations!
My wife and I live in Bend, Oregon.
Blessings to my cousins , Joann, Cynthia, Marcie, and my first Godson, Eddy and their families. So sorry for your loss.
Blessed Repose and Eternal Memory. Rest in peace, Bill.
I knew Bill through my 30 plus years at UPS. Although I never got the opportunity to work for Bill, I knew and respected him very well. I did enjoy a few retirement breakfasts with Bill and I always enjoyed spending time with Bill. God Bless to Bill and his family
