Edna M. Emmi
July 20, 1927 – August 18, 2025
Edna Margaret Davis, age 98, was born in 1927. She was the daughter of Arthur and Daisy Davis. She lived in Ditchingham Bungay, England, a small village outside of Norwich at 8 Alma Cottages which still stands today. Edna had one brother, Billy Davis.
She had a good childhood with many friends and an Aunt Ebby who spoiled her.
When World War II broke out in England, they were stripped of everything; very little food and constant air raids. She and her mother would hear the planes flying over their home thinking it was the RAF but it was the Germans they were waving to, and the bombs were destroying everything.
Edna met Angelo Emmi at the barracks called the Maltings. Angelo would give Edna nylons, chocolate and ice cream; all the things the British did not have.
They married and had a baby girl named Angeline, who was the first baby born after the war.
Edna was an English war bride and came to America on a cargo ship named the USS Marine Flasher, which docked in New Jersey. The Red Cross gave her money to continue her journey to Nebraska.
Angelo and Edna lived with his Italian family at 6th and Pierce Street in Omaha. They spoke no English which made it a struggle for Edna to fit in.
They bought a home and started their family of four children, Angie, Carole, Donna and Angelo, Jr.
Edna was a member of the South Omaha Eagles Club for 65 years and made many good friends. Sue and Linda have remained friends for the long term.
Edna and Angelo were blessed with great friends, they traveled, and had a great, full life together. After Angelo’s passing, Edna lived in her own home and she did it her way.
Edna was preceded in death by husband, Angelo; daughter, Angeline, son, Angelo, Jr.; granddaughters, Kira and Deanna; and brother, Billy Davis.
She is survived by daughter, Carole Tom, husband, Tony, and son, Eric; daughter, Donna Haney, husband Bob, son, Jim Baker and wife, Stephanie, Heidi (daughter of Bob Haney) husband, Steve, and daughter, Maren; Elaine Emmi (wife of Angelo Emmi, Jr.); Angeline’s son, Lance Moneto and wife, Kim, children and great-grandchildren, Tracy Pilakowski and husband, Tim, and children; Rick Killion, husband of Deanna. many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her heart and love has always been in England, her true home. She was and is a true British Rose.
