Edna Zach
August 27, 1926 – November 25, 2022
A graveside memorial service for Edna Inger Zach, 96, of Omaha, formerly of Verdel, will be held at a later date.
Edna Zach was born on August 27, 1926, to George and Ruth (Kopke) Eiler, on the Sheep Ranch, north of Monowi, and died November 25, 2022, in Omaha.
She was raised in the Monowi and Bristow areas and graduated from Lynch High School in 1944. She then moved to California to be near her oldest sister, Fern Maxwell and worked there for the war effort. She returned briefly to Nebraska, where she married Robert Zach on December 15, 1944. She then returned to California, where their first son, Ted, was born. After the war, she and her husband returned to Nebraska, where four more children were born, Wesley, Nancy, Terry, and Marty. When her parents died, her two youngest brothers, Jim and Dale, joined the family.
Her family was her world. Besides her own family, she also kept close ties with her eight siblings throughout the years, enjoying many Eiler reunions at various locations, and kept in touch with all of them. She loved to have people gather at her table for a meal or card game. She was known to have made her delicious homemade bread every day when she was raising her family. She loved to watch game shows, especially “The Price is Right,” and one big highlight for her was Christmas in 1952 when her parents and some siblings were flown to California and were the featured family on the “This Is Your Life” television show, for the show’s Christmas edition. All of her brothers, who were serving overseas in the military, surprised the rest of the family members, and all of the family was reunited for the holiday. In 1998, she moved from Verdel to a retirement home in Bennington to be near many of her family members who lived in the Omaha area.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Zach; her parents, George and Ruth Eiler; son, Wesley Zach; daughter, Nancy Barnes; four brothers: Keith, Don, Rudy, Jim; and two sisters, Fern and Fay.
Edna Inger Zach is survived by her sons, Ted (Norma) Zach, Wickenburg Ranch, Ariz.; Terry (Valorie) Zach, Niobrara; and Marty (Donna) Zach of Bellevue; son-in-law, Larry Barnes of Omaha; sister, Susie (Barry) Curtis, Lake Havasu, Ariz.; brother, Dale (Linda Walton) Eiler, Inman; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Eiler, California; Elsie Eiler, Monowi and Mary Eiler, Verdel, 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and many great, great-grandchildren.
