Elaine H. Bird
April 9, 1933 – June 15, 2024
Our hearts ache for a woman who meant so much to so many people:
Survived by 28 great-grandchildren; 18 grandchildren; 6 children; and 4 sisters. She was predeceased by her one true love and husband, Vincent J. Bird (August 31, 1930 – September 14, 2018).
Elaine Helen Bird went to her Lord and Savior on June 15, 2024, at age 91. Her life, since the loss of her husband was diminished by grief, but she remained steadfast in her faith.
Vince and Elaine met when students at South High, married on August 3, 1951, and nurtured a life-long love together. They enjoyed travel, rich friendships, and countless trips to Lake Okoboji, where they honeymooned. They worked together at Vince Bird Construction, which he started in the late 1960s. Elaine was a strong, determined, and sweet woman who loved keeping a beautiful home, and feeding and nurturing her six children: Robert Bird (Jennifer Vavricek, Brandon Bird, Erik Bird), Chris and Pat Bird (Matt Bird and Jessica LaGro), Dr. Nancy Edick and Robert Edick (Jordan Peterson, Parker Edick, Cole Edick), Richard and Janis Bird (Sarah Carr, Zach Bird, Caitlan Escher, Melanie Frary, Danielle Squire, Josh Bird), Jane Price (Paige Phelps, Alec Price, Kyle Price) and Lori and Kevin Breen (Lark Breen).
Elaine was born on April 9, 1933, the third child to parents Con Peters and Ruth Leuthaeuser Peters in their family of seven daughters and one oldest son. Her surviving sisters are Marjorie Brightwell, Lorene Stones, Karen Stiehl, and Vivian Schirmer.
Elaine Bird adored her sisters and was proud to have a big, warm family. All of us will miss her.
Our family expresses deep gratitude for the compassionate care, sweet support, and loving kindness our mom experienced at Legato Five Fountains and with St. Croix Hospice. Please consider a donation to St. Croix Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Association.
