Eleanor B. McNichols

July 30, 1934-April 24, 2025

Lannie was born and raised in Omaha by her parents, Walter Logan and Flora (Marsh) Burritt. They have preceded her, as has her sister, Margaret “Mardi” Burritt Brown. Lannie is survived by her husband, Wm. Laird “Larry” McNichols, whom she married in 1956; son, William “Bill” (Susan) of Dallas, Elizabeth “Eli” of Omaha; grandsons, Liam (Adrianne) of Oklahoma City and Jake (Emilie) of Houston.

Among many civic activities, she served as president of the Douglas County Historical Society, the Brownell Hall Alumni Association, the Wellesley College Alumnae Club, the National Society of Colonial Dames of Nebraska. She helped start the Dundee Village Community Council. She was the key holder for Joslyn Castle after Omaha Public Schools left the premises. She was given the key to the city by then mayor Michael Boyle. She was also active in the Symphony Debutante Ball, the Junior League of Omaha and All Saints Episcopal Church. Lannie taught special education in District 66, then worked in ESU #3 as an audiologist and prepared taxes for 20 years.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: Saturday, May 17, 2025, 11:00AM at  All Saints Episcopal Church, 9302 Blondo St., Omaha.

PRIVATE INTERMENT: Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Douglas County Historical Society, Dundee Memorial Park Association, Joslyn Castle or Prospect Hill Cemetery.

    Our deepest sympathy to her children , Elizabeth, and especially Bill and his beautiful family—our dear friends! We care deeply and are so thankful to Bill’s Mother Eleanor B. McNichols and Father William Laird “Larry” McNichols for our dear friends. God opened heavens gates for her and we share in celebrating her life .     We were sorry to see the loss of Lani McHichols. She was a big player in the betterment of Dundee and the City of Omaha. We enjoyed working with her and Larry in their various musical and political projects and endeavors. We will miss her on the scene. Our condolences to Larry and the family for their loss.
