Elena I Spencer

Elena I. Spencer age 82 of Council Bluffs, Iowa formerly of Woodbine, Iowa passed away on Monday, June 16, 2014 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Elena was born January 23, 1932 in Moorhead, Iowa to Henry and Mildred (Withem) Godden. She attended school in Mondamin, Iowa. During her lifetime, and her first marriage to Corvin ‘Shorty’ Cox, the family lived near Pisgah, Iowa where Shorty worked on a farm. The family moved to Omaha, Nebraska where Shorty worked at Armours Meat Packing and Elena worked at So Side Laundry. They later lived in Council Bluffs, Iowa for a number of years before work transferred them to Emporia, Kansas and Elena worked at Dolly Madison Bakery. The couple later divorced and Elena moved back to Iowa. Elena married Leslie Spencer in 1973, and they farmed in Woodbine and Persia area. Elena worked as a CNA at Blair Crowell Home, Westmont in Logan, Iowa, and a cashier at Foodland in Missouri Valley, Iowa. She enjoyed reading, gardening. Not only did she have dogs and cats, but she also had a squirrel, possum and a raccoon. Elena was preceded in death by her husband; Leslie Spencer, parents: Henry and Mildred Godden. Survivors include her children; Cristina Henry (Fiancé Dennis Lamb), David Cox, Tamara Panos (Bill), Stacy Cox, stepson; Tom Spencer (Eileen), brothers; Norman Godden (Genee), Dennis Godden (Patty) sister; Marilyn Smith, 6 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 2 step great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Visitation with the family will be Sunday from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Mondamin Community Center in Mondamin, Iowa. In Loving Memory Of Elena I.
