Elizabeth “Betty” F. Quinn

Betty F. Quinn

March 22, 1938 – Sept 1, 2024

Betty Quinn, age 86, passed away peacefully on Sept 1, 2024. Betty was born in Omaha on March 22, 1938, as the only daughter of James and Helen Fitzgerald and the youngest of four siblings. She was a lifelong member of St. Margaret Mary’s Church, where she attended elementary school with her three older brothers, raised her six children, and lived a life devoted to her family and community.

Betty continued her education at Duchesne Academy before earning a nursing degree from St. Louis University. She had careers in both nursing and real estate. Betty enjoyed traveling, especially her trips to the Dominican Republic, where she served as a nurse with Creighton University’s ILAC group.

Betty was generous with her time and home, welcoming international exchange students and providing support and housing to unwed mothers. She was a strong supporter of the arts in her community, and a devoted advocate for both Holy Name Housing and the Omaha Academy of Ballet.

Betty loved nothing more than gathering family and friends around the table, often hosting big dinners where her hospitality truly shone. Her welcoming spirit extended not only to her own children but also to their friends, nieces, nephews, and later, her grandchildren. The home she shared with her husband Jim, whom she hosted alongside until his passing in 2022, was the heart of family traditions and celebrations. From summer camping in the yard to making gingerbread houses at Christmas, it was a place filled with warmth, memories, and love.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her twin brothers, Fr. Bob and Fr. Jim Fitzgerald; her husband of 62 years, James D. Quinn; and her beloved daughters, Marybeth Quinn Weber and Kathleen Ann Quinn.

She is survived by her children: James E. Quinn, Sean (Angie) Quinn, Colleen (Eric) Monsef, Kevin (Lori) Quinn, and son-in-law, Mark Weber (Marybeth†); grandchildren: John (Shannan) Weber; Julia, Jimmy, Joe, and Jack Quinn; Tal and Peter Quinn; Elizabeth and Katherine Monsef; and Jessica, Megan, and Ryan Quinn; great-grandchild, Calvin; brother, Tom (Marilyn) Fitzgerald; 12 nieces and nephews.

Betty was a force of nature, who welcomed everyone into her home and heart. My deepest sympathy to her family and friends, who will cherish the marvelous memories of this very special woman. I hope she is dancing in heaven with Jim and her precious daughters.
Sending love from the Minnesota cousins, Teresa

Betty was one of the kindest, generous and loving person I have known. Her willingness to open her home to so many people, Christmas Eve Mass, and fantastic meals will not be forgotten.
My condolences to her children and extended family. She was a wonderful woman and I will not forget her kindness towards me.
    God bless Betty.

Betty’s Family, and Fitz’s mommy. I was only able to know Betty at the end of her earthly journey. But, I did see the sparkle in her eye, and after reading her obituary, I certainly see why. I am deeply sorry for your loss, and I feel privileged to have been able to spend some time with her at Aksarben Senior Living. Amy

The memories of Christmas Eve’s and Christmas’s will never be forgotten as are the Sunday gatherings. Both Betty and Doc left us way before their time.
