Elsie E. Mellott
December 28, 1929 – August 4, 2024
Elsie, age 94 passed away peacefully at The Heritage Sterling Ridge senior living facility, Omaha, Nebraska, where she enjoyed living for several years. She was born to Mabel and Stanley King in Red Oak, Iowa, on December 28, 1929. Along with her two sisters, Elsie grew up in Red Oak and graduated from Red Oak High School. As a talented vocalist, she attended Parsons College, Fairfield, Iowa, and majored in music.
She married Philip K. Mellott of Red Oak on June 25, 1950. They welcomed daughter, Debra Ann, on October 4, 1954, and farmed near Red Oak and Elliott, Iowa. In 1965, Elsie joined Houghton State Bank in Red Oak as a teller and progressed to executive secretary to the Bank’s President. After starting a successful business, they moved to Red Oak while enjoying their golf course home in Phoenix, Arizona. Philip passed away in 1997 and Elsie moved to Omaha, Nebraska to be near her daughter’s family.
Elsie was preceded in death by her husband; Philip Mellott; parents, Mabel and Stanley King; sisters, Catherine King Scott and spouse and Marilyn King Perdue and spouse. She is survived by daughter, Debra; son-in-law, Tom; grandson, Ryan; beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, August 15th at 3pm at the West Center Chapel, 7805 W. Center Rd.
Memorials to the Nebraska Humane Society are kindly suggested to honor Elsie’s love of pets and her recent cat, Paddy.
Elsie will be laid to rest alongside Phillip at Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak, Iowa at a later date.
