Emily Reynolds Baker

Baker, Emily Reynolds August 9, 1924 – April 27, 2013 Died unexpectedly in Houston, TX where she had travelled to attend her granddaughter’s wedding with family and friends. Born in Omaha to Sam and Louise Reynolds, Emily was involved in numerous civic organizations, including Durham Western Heritage Museum, Junior League of Omaha, Fontenelle Forest Nature Center, Uta Halee Girls Village, YWCA of Omaha, Salvation Army, Joslyn Art Museum, Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, The Colonial Dames, Aksarben, Omaha Symphony Association, Children’s Hospital Bazaar, and many others. Emily was invited to be Queen of Aksarben in 1947, she worked at Omaha University, sang in the choir at St Andrew’s Episcopal Church and was an avid genealogist. She wrote a book about her great-great grandfather, wrote a history of the recent 20 years of Trinity Cathedral, wrote a book about the life story of her mother, Louise Reynolds, as well as a family cookbook, and she served as the genealogist for the Colonial Dames. She belonged to two book clubs, an Art Guild, a movie club, and held memberships in the Omaha Community Playhouse and the Holland Performing Arts Center. Emily was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Louise; husband, Joe Baker; sisters, Louise Haugh and Aurel Couch; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Baker. Emily is survived by sons, Jay Baker of Houston and Tom Baker of Omaha; cousins, Joel Reynolds of Omaha and Julie Steenburg of Stuart, FL; nephews: Skip Haugh of San Diego, Sam Haugh of San Francisco, Stewart Couch of Las Vegas; niece, Sandra Couch Kelley of Falmouth ME; granddaughters, Emily Baker Ries of Houston and Annie Baker McDonald of Houston. The family will receive friends Sunday, May 19, 2:00pm to 4:00pm at West Center Chapel. Memorial Service will be held on Monday, May 20 at 11:00am at All Saints Episcopal Church, 9302 Blondo. Memorials to All Saints Episcopal Church or to your favorite charity. The family will welcome any and all written stories about your travels and times with Emily.
