Eric Byron Salem

March 20, 1967 – April 28, 2018

Born on March 20, 1967 in Lincoln, Neb; passed away on April 28, 2018 in Omaha, Neb. At 15, Eric served on the Noxious Weed Control Authority of Lancaster County, the youngest person to be elected to public office in the U.S.  He was a graduate of Lincoln High School and earned a Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.  Eric worked in marketing at DMSI in Omaha and in IT as a software/database engineer consultant for many companies and the military.  A Porsche enthusiast, he enjoyed autocross and racing and was involved in the SCCA and Porsche Club of Omaha.

Eric was preceded in death by his mothers, Kate Mason and Marla Norman Salem; grandparents Charles and Olive Salem, Mac and Helen Mason, Roland Norman and Marvin Setlik.  Survived by Allison and Dick Salem, his father; Kari Kratky Salem, former wife and friend; daughter, Claire; son, Spencer; sister and brother-in-law, Emily and Ross Faubel; brother, Sam Salem; grandmother, Virginia Setlik of Ord, NE; aunts and uncles, Chuck and Sherene Salem of Lincoln, Debbie and Jim Menze of Hutchinson, KS; Christie and Kenny Sawyer of Santa Fe, NM; Shelly Blaha of Ord, NE; and Mike Norman and Marilyn Crawford of Lincoln, NE; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE SERVICE: Saturday, May 5th, 11am at First Plymouth Church, 2000 “D” Street, Lincoln, Neb., luncheon following.  Porsche parking welcome, call Dick for details. Private interment at Wyuka Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to the family or a local NPR Station.
