Erik Howard Torring, Jr.

TORRING, Erik Howard Jr. Nov 21, 1936 – Sep 24, 2011 Age 74. Beloved son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, teacher and friend passed away in Omaha on 24 September 2011. Born November 21, 1936 in Nuckolls County, Nebraska to Erik and Clara Torring, he attended Ruskin High School. After spending two years serving his country in the Navy, he went on to graduate from Peru State College in Peru, Nebraska and later received a Masters Degree from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff Arizona. He married Mary Jo Scharp on August 21, 1960 and the two welcomed two sons to their family. Erik started his teaching career in 1960 and continued teaching until his retirement from Ralston High School in 1994. He was a long time member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Ralston and was an avid fisherman, hunter, and woodcarver. Other than his family, his most significant passion and noteworthy accomplishment was teaching whether it was in the classroom, as a wrestling coach, Boy Scout leader, father, uncle or grandfather. Erik was preceded in death by his loving wife Mary Jo, his parents, and younger brother Victor. He is survived by children Erik and Jennifer of San Antonio, Texas: and Todd and Bridgette of Omaha; grandchildren Kristen and Erik Torring IV of San Antonio, and Matthew and Emily Torring of Omaha; sisters Sherrill Torring, Sharon Jensen, and Karen Gonyea; and many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. Services will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 11:00 am at Messiah Lutheran Church, 5015 S. 80th St, Omaha, NE 68127. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 10:00 am.
