Words cannot express my sadness of losing a mentor, co-worker and friend. I was proud to work with such a smart practitioner. It was always so apparent his love for Mary Beth and “the boys” in everything he did. He came across as a bad ass at times yelling but I saw him paying for people’s medicines, getting gift cards for food and other random acts of kindness. He loved teaching student doctors and was a great role model. Our office will never be the same without him but he left us with a great example to try and emulate.

My deepest condolences. I worked with Gene in the ER at Creighton in the 70s and always enjoyed being on the job with him. My husband, Michael and I became his patients in his practice before we moved back to California in 83. I also worked with MaryBeth. I’m so saddened to hear of his passing. He was much too young! Love to MaryBeth and the family

Dr. Barone was an amazing mentor and teacher. He was always willing to answer questions, write letters of recommendations, and be available. He was an amazing mix of funny and smart strong headed, yet full of compassion and soft on the inside.. I was honored to share an office with him for 3 years when I first started practicing. I learned so much from him and think of him and those lessons often still. He talked about his boys all the time. He was very proud of his family. He was always supportive, encouraging, and well respected by all. He always ended his phone calls with “take care, now.” Love love love to you Mary Beth and the boys!

Deepest sympathy and condolences to Mary Beth, Andrew & Nick. I worked with Gene for 10 years at Creighton and shared many good times with him. I remember how he loved to put together antipasti for parties and he was very good at that. I admired his love of model railroading and turning his basement into a model train wonderland. Our businessman’s jaunt to a Kansas City Royals game with Mike Kavan and Rick Hurd – so many wonderful memories. I knew Gene as a very caring, loving person and he will be missed greatly.

Words are insufficient to express the loss to us all in the passing of such a phenomenal doctor and man. I started taking my family to see Dr. Barone when he was on Harrison Street. Since then I brought 2 more children, my mother, my daughter-in-law and my granddaughter into his care. I trusted him completely and always felt he wanted the best for us. All of these memories shared here show he was truly loved by his patients, co-workers, friends and family. I offer my prayers for you all. The medical community has lost a truly great doctor and man.

Dr. Barone wasn’t my doctor, teacher, mentor or beverage companion but I wish he would have been. I met him via a close friend and instantly I knew he was special. He was the E. F. Hutton of medicine, education, friendship and family. When he spoke, people listened!!! Even though our earthly time was brief, if I listened correctly Dr. Barone, we shall meet again. Prayers from a heavy heart to the family and his friends. Farewell Sir.
