Eugene Larsen

LARSEN, Eugene, Lowell, age 78 years, Omaha, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005. Born October 8, 1927 to Ervin and Matilda (Jorgensen) Larsen of rural Hampton, NE. He graduated from Hampton High School in 1945 and entered the U.S. Navy. He served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He married Jayne Bedient on January 15, 1950. Gene attended York College and graduated from Peru State College in 1953. He excelled in football, basketball and track while at Peru State College, and is in the Peru State Football Hall of Fame. He taught math and coached at Red Cloud, Hampton and District 66 middle school over 31 years. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Millard and the American Legion Post 374 in Millard. He loved to work in his garden and play bridge. He enjoyed traveling, camping, hunting and fishing. He and Jayne spent 10 winters in Harlingen, Texas. His special love was spending time with his grandchildren and his faithful canine companion, Abigail. He was preceded in death by infant daughter: Rebecca Jayne and his parents: Ervin and Matilda (Jorgensen) Larsen. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife: Jayne, Omaha; One son: Robert Larsen, Inverurie, Aberdeen, Scotland; 3 daughters: Debra Troester and husband, Steve, Hampton, NE, Vicki Robertson and Lori Ash, Omaha, NE; 9 grandchildren: Peter Larsen, Jennifer Troester, Jeff Troester and fiance’, Kim Radford, John Troester, Joseph Troester, Shannon Robertson, Troy Robertson, Nick Ash and wife, Kim, and Nathan Ash; 1 great-grandchild: Sydney Jayne Ash; 2 brothers: Melvin Larsen and wife, Darlene, Ames, Iowa, Norman Larsen and wife, Betty, York, NE; nieces and nephews.

SERVICES Friday, 10:30 a.m., St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Millard Town Center, 13271 Millard Ave., with Military Honors conducted by Millard American Legion Post 374 & V.F.W. Post 8334. Graveside Service Friday, 3:30 p.m., United Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hampton, NE. Memorials to Kidney Foundation or St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Millard. VISITATION from 3:00 p.m., Thursday, with family receiving friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the West Center Chapel.
