Florence Ann Maez

Florence Ann Maez

September 30, 1948 – December 8, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Florence Ann Maez, 76, on December 8, 2024, in La Vista, NE. Flo was born on September 30, 1948, in Española, NM to Jim and Dolores Ruybali. She graduated from Española High School in 1966. On September 9, 1967, she married James Maez. They had a daughter, a son, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who were the beat of her heart. Flo attended nursing school at St. Vincent’s School of Nursing in Santa Fe, NM, and graduated in 1967 as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She fell in love with nursing and had a passion for geriatrics. She worked as an LPN for 37 years. In 1983, their family was stationed in Nebraska where their family would continue to grow.  In November 2006, Flo received a liver transplant that gave her family 18 more years to love her. Her family describes her as the most honest and sincere person they know. She set an example of loving others unconditionally and always saw the best in people. Flo shared “I would like for people to remember me as a person who enjoyed other people that were in my life. I want them to remember me as a good person who was always there if needed. I also would want everyone to know how much I loved being a nurse to the core. I really feel that it was my calling, and I was good at it. I also want my family to know how much I loved them and everything we have become. Nothing makes me prouder.”

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Dolores Ruybali; sister, Irene; brother-in-law, Ernesto (Tito) Vigil; brothers, Joe Ruybali and Jimmy Ruybali.

She is survived by her husband, James Maez; daughter, Melissa Morford; son, Paul (Amy) Maez; granddaughters: Taylor (Perla), Samantha (Jake), and Kiana; great-grandchildren: Jose, Arelie, Joey, and Jacob.

We are deeply saddened to hear of Florence’s passing, but know she is resting peacefully and no longer in pain. I will always remember her smile and how she treated me as one of her own children. Seeing you all for Irene’s funeral was a reminder of the remarkable person she always was. That never ending smile and that hug that I still feel today. Unfortunately we will be unable to attend her services, but please know we will be honoring her as she has now transitioned to her new life with God! Peace be with you all. Bryon & Judy Pippin

Florence was a delight in eveery way! She was a great daughter to my folks and a great sister to me and my siblings. She loved her family and showed love and pride as she spoke of Jimmy and the children. She left us much too early, but I am sure she will be watching over all of her family.

My precious friend Flowerpot…I will miss her forever. She was a loving , kind hearted person. Such a good sport when she got teased. Thanks for your love and the memories. I’m so grateful for our get togethers with Lorry in recent years. Rest in peace Amiga

Jimmy, my sincere condolences to you and your family. I met you and Florence back in 1967 in Las Cruces. She was a wonderful person and friend. May she rest in peace and may she fly high with the angels. Priscilla Jaramillo (Trujillo then)
