Frances Mildred Chandler Banset

BANSET, Frances Mildred Chandler May 16, 1913 – Sep 7, 2012. Frances M. Banset, age 99, passed away Friday at her son’s home in Lincoln, NE. She was born in Aurelia, Iowa, the middle daughter of Elizabeth Grashoff and Roy Chandler. She grew up playing music and performed with her sister, Marianne, and best friend, Mary Fraser. Fran trained as a teacher in Sioux City, IA and taught in a one-room schoolhouse for 5 years. She married Emil Joseph Banset on Dec. 31, 1938. She then attended Burrough’s Business School and worked first at Northern Natural Gas Co. as a bookkeeper and later as an office manager for Dr. John Heffron. She retired in 1983. Fran continued to love and enjoy music throughout her life and also to learn and try new things. She learned to play the organ in her seventies, and in her nineties became an avid Lincoln Stars hockey fan. Fran was well loved by all her family and will be missed by all those whose lives she touched. Fran was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, husband, infant daughter Victoria, and 4 great-grandchildren in infancy. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Wally Willms of Council Bluffs, IA; son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Cindy Banset of Lincoln, NE; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Monday, 5pm to 7pm at the West Center Chapel. SERVICES Tuesday, 11am, West Center Chapel. Interment, Bohemian Cemetery. Memorials to St. Paul Methodist Church Youth Fund, 1144 “M” St., Lincoln, NE 68508.
