Frances Neville Newberry

NEWBERRY, Frances Neville, Dec 20, 1911 – Oct 7, 2011. Age 99. Died at Hospice House-the Josie Harper Residence in Omaha, Neb. Frances was the second daughter of Governor Keith and Mary Virginia Neill Neville, born in North Platte, NE. She attended Sweetbriar College in Lynchberg, VA and graduated from the University of Texas in 1933, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Frances married W.D. “Twist” Newberry on July 3, 1934 in North Platte, NE. Frances was an active member of The Episcopal Church of Our Savior in North Platte and All Saints Episcopal Church in Omaha. Over the years she served on the Altar Guild, was a Sunday School teacher and was active in a variety of Church Women’s activities. She was also active in the Red Cross (working at the North Platte Canteen), AAUW, DAR, the Community Playhouse and P.E.O. She and her husband enjoyed golf, bridge and travel together and spent their retirement years sharing time between North Platte and Green Valley AZ. Frances was preceded in death by her husband, “Twist,” her parents, and two sisters: Mary Nel Sieman and Virginia Robertson. She is survived by daughters, Eloise N. Tesar (Gary) and Ann N. Landes; grandchildren, Kathy Bowden (Pete), Daniel Edwards (Jodie), John David Edwards (Becky), Katie Landes and Trey Landes; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grand children; and her youngest sister, Irene N. Bystrom, of Holmes Beach, Florida. MEMORIAL SERVICE Monday, 11am, All Saints Episcopal Church, 9302 Blondo. Inurnment Wednesday, 10am, at Episcopal Church of Our Savior in North Platte, NE. Memorials are suggested to All Saints Episcopal Church in Omaha, Josie Harper Hospice House, Omaha, or Episcopal Church of Our Savior in North Platte, NE.
