Frances P. Volkir
December 21, 1927 – September 2, 2024
Mrs. Frances Pauline Volkir (Gustin) was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, on December 21, 1927, to Frank and Alfreda Gustin. Frances is the eldest of 4 children, leaving behind her only surviving sibling, sister Nelly Bracket, who resides in Rockland, Maine, and her only granddaughter, Melissa Bojanksi.
Frances moved with her family from Lawrence, Massachusetts, to Rockland, Maine, as a small child. Shortly after graduating high school, she met and married her first husband, Steven Korwick, and had their only child, Jean Bojanksi (Korwick). Frances relocated to Omaha, NE, with her husband and daughter, where she worked for more than 22 years for the Omaha Police Department in their Warrants Division. Frances was proud to say she always told the truth and could put her hand on a Bible and take a lie detector test anytime. This brought us all many days of laughter and will keep us all humble and laughing for years to come.
Frances met the love of her life, Paul Volkir, through her daughter, Jean, who also worked at the Omaha Police Department. Paul Volkir was a 33-year veteran of the OPD, serving his community as a Police Sergeant.
Frances’s love for her community, her faith and her family, were the nucleus of every conversation she had with anyone who took time out of their day to share with her.
The friendships she made over the decades and the strangers she befriended with her beautiful smile, kind heart, sassy Italian spirit, and attitude span decades. We each love her and we each received a different blessing from her in our time shared. Her most valuable gift to us all was her genuine spirit. Her kindness, her life lessons, her trust, her integrity, her compassion, her loyalty, and most importantly, her gift of time.
With the coming of September, we experience a change of seasons. The trees begin to lose their leaves, much as we have lost our friend. But, as we look closer, we can see that the tree itself is still there. The tree, which is strong, sturdy and remains unyielding for an infinite existence. It is the keeper of memories. Just like us. Our memories of our sweet friend; “Nana”, “Sassy”, “Little Italian Thunder” and “Honey” will live within our hearts and minds forever.
