Francoise M. Babin

Francoise M. Babin

November 20, 1937 – November 14, 2020

Françoise Marie Therriault Babin, loving mother of four, was born November 20, 1937 in Edmonston, New Brunswick, Canada.  She received her degree in Home Economics and Nutrition from the Teacher’s College at the University of Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada and received a scholarship to St. Francis Xavier School at Antigonish, Nova Scotia.  Françoise taught in school and worked in Edmonston before marrying Don Babin (divorced in 1988) and moving to the United States in 1962.  They raised one son, Ralph, and three daughters, Renée, Danielle, and Rachelle.

Françoise also earned a Bachelor of Social Work from Creighton University in 1989 and was employed as a middle school social worker for the Omaha Public Schools.  Her people skills and desire to help others shone brightly during these years as she touched the lives of numerous students and their families.

Mom was a warm, wise, passionate, generous, and gifted woman.  She lived her life with grace, strength, and courage.  While her warmth and vibrant spirit were evident the moment you met her, she was best-known for her quick wit, impeccable comedic timing, uncanny intuition, love of laughter, and Julia Child-esque cooking.

She was also passionate about all things gardening, music, reading, art, sudoku and crossword puzzles, MSNBC, and American politics.  She will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to call her friend, sister, neighbor, colleague, and mom.

Françoise was preceded in death by her brothers, Clément and Michele; and her sister, Madeleine (all of Eastern Canada).  Her loving son, Ralph, passed away in 1984.  She is survived by her sisters, Martine and Denise; her brother, André; as well as her daughters: Renée, Danielle, and Rachelle.

VISITATION observing CDC guidelines: Thursday, November 19th at 12:30pm, at the West Center Chapel followed by SERVICES at 1pm.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Siena/Francis House in Omaha,

Francoise was a friend and it was always a joy to be around her. It’s been a long time since she was able to
attend our book club, and I hope her joy is now complete. Bill and I also knew her as a part of the Creighton
community. Our sympathy to her family. Bill & Kathy Brannen

How much I loved the sound of her laugh! Francoise was a caring neighbor and supportive friend to my family for several decades. She was a bright and loving light, and I will miss her greatly.

Sending so much love to Renee, Danielle and Rachelle, as well as the rest of the family. I very much wish I would have been able to meet Francoise. She sounds like a treasure and someone I would have loved being around. xoxo

I met Francoise when she came to the doctor’s office where I worked. I was going through my own cancer fight and when she found out, she gave me a sweet card which read: ‘May you return to full health to enjoy life and family and friends! The Lord is with you!’ Prayers, Francoise
I still have this card and read and bless Francoise when her card rotates in my file. Ironically, I just prayed over her on Monday, 11/16. Blessings to her family, Kathy

Francoise will be so missed. We lived across the parking lot from her and I loved visiting with her. We always looked forward to caroling to Francoise and chatting. She taught our daughter French lessons and was such a great neighbor who shared my joy of gardening even in small spaces. You will be missed Francoise
