It is with great sadness that the family of Frank A. Perrone announce his passing on Tuesday, November 30, 2021.

Frank was born in 1936, the son of Frank C. Perrone and Lucille M. Valenti, the eldest of their three children.

He attended various grade schools and Creighton Preparatory prior to entering Creighton University, which he completed in 1958.  He met Gertrude “Trudy” Murphy while still in high school.  The two were married for more than 64 years and had five children, nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Frank had many passions and was always active in the community.  He volunteered with the Douglas County Election Commission and also served as an official at the annual Nebraska State High School Track and Field Championship.  Frank was a founding member of the Plains Track Club (now Omaha Running Club), and was inducted into the Nebraska Poll Workers Hall of Fame and the Omaha Running Club Hall of Fame.

Frank’s interest in sports also led him to a lifetime of fitness activities.  He was a catcher in college who caught for future baseball pitching great Bob Gibson.  He was the 1960 Omaha Doubles Ping Pong Champion.   He participated in 45 marathons as well as several Army 10-milers and other running events.  In later life, he and Trudy rode their bikes across the state each year with the Bicycle Ride Across Nebraska (BRAN); they completed more than 30 rides during which he also served as a planning committee member.

Frank was proceeded in death by a son, Frank Edwin Perrone; grandson, also named Frank Edwin Perrone.  He is survived by his wife, Trudy; daughter, Mary Connell (Terri); sons: Philip, Matthew, and Christopher; brother, Anthony; sister, Patricia Corbe; grandchildren: Andrew Connell, Mary Susserman, Jennifer Crum, Stephanie Smith, Donavon Perrone, Amanda Perrone, Faith and Paige Perrone; great-grandchildren: Blake, Harper, and Quinn Crum, McKenna and Sawyer Smith, Jack and Christopher “CJ” Susserman, and Killian Connell-Stanton.

VISITATION: Friday, December 3rd from 5pm to 7 pm at West Center Chapel.  MEMORIAL MASS: Saturday, December 4th at 10am at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, 109 S. 19th Street.

I so sorry to hear of Franks passing. My condolences to Trudy and family. I met Frank 40 years ago when he was pioneering the novel idea of a running/soccer store in Omaha. It was always good to share a few words and reminisce when ever our paths would cross. Rest in peace.

My Central High CC buddies and I’d go to Frank’s home to buy New Balance running shoes before he opened a Sports Treds store. I lots of road races in the late-70’s and 80’s, and so did Frank of he wasn’t timing. Frank liked to tease me about my running style with a lil hitch in my left leg. I’d tell him he was lucky he didn’t see his own form! I also was in the Plains Track Club, which evolved into the ORC, and I timed road races, too. I rode several BRANs in the late 80’s and early 90’s and of course interacted with Frank and Trudy a lot. In 1994 when they had to leave BRAN at David City, they called me to see if I wanted to take their place. I did, of course!
I saw Frank and Trudy lots of times when I was biking the Keystone in the 2000’s. He’d growl at me as I passed them, then become very friendly when he realized who it was.
Trudy, God bless Frank and God bless you and your loved ones! You’ve always been a sweetie to me, and you and Frank have a permanent place in my heart.
