In Loving Memory of Frank J. Batko
November 27, 1949 – November 28, 2024
Frank J. Batko, aged 75, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, November 28, 2024, surrounded by his beloved family.
Born on November 27, 1949, in South Omaha, Nebraska, Frank was the cherished son of Marie (née Lupomech) and Frank C. Batko.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his daughter, Melissa (Gaffney).
Frank attended Assumption Catholic Grade School, and graduated from Ryan High School in 1968. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, in 1973. During his college years, Frank met the love of his life, Kathleen “Kathy” Rogers. The two began dating in 1971, and were married on April 20, 1974, embarking on a remarkable journey of 50 years together.
Together, Frank and Kathy raised three children: Melissa (widow of Daniel Gaffney), David (married to Jennifer), and Michael (married to Ashley). Frank was the proud grandfather of six grandchildren: Patrick and Katherine Gaffney; Marie and Henry Batko; and Mina and Dean Batko, who brought endless joy to his life.
Frank worked a long and dedicated career as a programmer with the Phone Company through its Baby Bell divestiture, and later multiple mergers, ultimately retiring from CenturyLink after more than 40 years of service. His discussions with co-workers about “venetian blinds” will forever live on with his family. Outside of work, he was a man of simple joys and deep passions. He loved fishing, hunting, and spending time on the water. Frank had a passion for finding deals, often armed with coupons and a steel-trap brain full of comparable ad prices. His favorite target, Menards. He also had an enduring love for music, which far surpassed his modest culinary preferences, hot dogs and soda.
Those who knew Frank will remember his quick wit and famously dry sense of humor. When he told a story, it often left you guessing, whether he was joking or serious. But there was no mistaking his unwavering devotion to his wife, Kathy. Their love story was marked by resilience and mutual respect, only strengthened by life’s biggest challenges. Frank affectionately called her “Dear,” “Kate,” and “Boss,” and their bond was evident to all who knew them.
Frank’s kindness, humor, and steadfast love has been passed down to his children and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by his Family, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
