Frederick Clinton Cady III was born on October 24, 1939 in Columbus, NE to Cora Margaret and Clinton Otto Cady. The oldest of four children, Fred graduated from St. Cecelia Cathedral Catholic High School in Omaha, NE in 1957, and went on to graduate from the University of Wyoming with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1962. After working at NASA in the Air Force for several years, Fred went on to obtain a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Harvard Business School, graduating in 1968.

While studying for a Doctorate in Behavioral Psychology, Fred felt the vocational call of priesthood and decided to leave the program and return to Omaha, NE. After attending a retreat with the Jesuits in 1974, he was encouraged to reflect for a year prior to joining the seminary.

He soon met Linda Gain and it was love at first sight. They married on July 4, 1975. Together they raised five children: Beth (Pete) Fischer, Chris (Ross) Jones, Clint (Sarah), Anne and Laura. They have eleven grandchildren: Jacob, Zach and Brody Fischer, Isabel, Stella, Adam and Alex Jones, Nate, Noah, Ethan and Marie Cady. They attend St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, where Fred was active in the Parish, especially in the Knights of Columbus and vocation ministries. Fred was also very active in Cursillo, Prolife activities and Serra Club. He worked as a Mechanical Engineer for 35 years, retiring in 2008.

In 2010, Fred was diagnosed with frontal temporal lobe dementia. Linda cared for him at home for several years, until he was admitted into a memory care facility in 2015. He was moved to the Eastern Nebraska Veterans Home in February 2016. At the Veterans Home, he received outstanding care and was treated with love, dignity and respect. He passed peacefully there, surrounded by his family and the loving staff on January 10, 2017.

DO NOT ASK ME TO REMEMBER

Do not ask me to remember,
Don’t try to make me understand,
Let me rest and know you’re with me,
Kiss my cheek and hold my hand.
I’m confused beyond your concept,
I am sad and sick and lost.
All I know is that I need you
To be with me at all cost.
Do not lose your patience with me,
Do not scold or curse or cry.
I can’t help the way I’m acting,
Can’t be different though I try.
Just remember that I need you,
That the best of me is gone,
Please don’t fail to stand beside me,
Love me ’til my life is done.

Wonderful memories of dad Clint; of Fred; and beautiful Paula.
Often in my thoughts…always in my prayers.
