Frederick J. “Fred” Nesler

March 18, 1947 – May 28, 2023

VISITATION: Thursday, June 1st from 5pm to 7pm at the West Center Chapel, followed by VIGIL SERVICE at 7pm.  MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: Friday, June 2nd at 10:30am at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, 15353 Pacific.  Interment, Calvary Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Josie Harper Hospice House or Essential Pregnancy Services.

Frederick J. (Fred) Nesler, age 76, of Omaha passed away on May 28, 2023, at the Josie Harper Hospice House. Fred was born in Dubuque, Iowa to Margaret (Bahning) and Gilbert Nesler. He graduated from St. Francis Xavier High School in Dyersville, Iowa in 1965. He attended Creighton University and graduated in 1969 with a BS degree. In 1972 Fred received a Master of Business Administration and Accounting from Creighton University. On June 7, 1969, he was united in marriage with Janell Ann Schueller and together they raised sons Eric and Matt and daughter Janee’. Fred was budget director for Creighton University, and he retired in 2011.

Fred enjoyed the Creighton basketball games and was a season ticket holder. He and Janell enjoyed traveling and took many trips during their retirement. He was an active member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and a member of the Kiwanis. Fred was an avid reader and a history buff. During retirement he started golfing and enjoyed games with friends and family.

Fred is survived by his loving wife, Janell; sons, Eric (Jen) and Matt (Jeanne) Nesler; daughter, Janee’ (Jason) Butterfield; granddaughters: Alex and Elena Nesler, Maya and Ciera Nesler, and Jaime and Joslyn Butterfield; brother, Dennis (Andrea) Nesler; sister, Suzanne (Emmett) Lampkin.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Margaret Nesler; sister, Diane Nesler.

    Dear Janell and Family, it is with a heavy heart that we extend our deepest sympathies to all of you on Fred’s passing. He was a very special person and always a delight to be with. There is peace in knowing he is no longer in pain and is surrounded by God’s grace. He will be greatly missed. May you always feel his presence around you.

    I am sorry to hear of Fred’s passing. I was a work colleague of Fred’s while I was at Creighton. He was a great guy and I appreciated knowing him. My condolences to the family.

    I am so sorry to hear of Fred’s diagnosis and passing. I worked in the Controller’s office for quite a few years and will remember him as a great guy with a love for all things CU basketball! Praying for comfort and peace for Janell and the family.

    Janell and family, my heartfelt condolences on your loss. Fred and I worked closely together at Creighton for many years. He was a very kind,, gentle and caring human being as befits a boy from Dubuque . It was a joy to know him and a pleasure to work with him.
