Even from an early age, Garner always wanted to be an attorney. This was fueled by numerous evenings spent watching endless episodes of LA Law and Night Court. He had an incredible passion for public service and always felt the need to advocate for those who couldn’t help themselves. After graduating from Central High School, Garner attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, graduating with both Undergraduate and Law degrees. Shortly after graduation, he worked to become certified to practice law in multiple states, New York and Nebraska. Once certified, Garner fulfilled another lifelong dream–moving to Washington D.C. and working on the Hill. Upon establishing himself in D.C., Garner worked on Capitol Hill for the National Conference of State Legislators (NCSL). Eventually, Garner decided to start and raise a family in Nebraska. He became the Legislative Liaison at the Nebraska Department of Revenue and became one of the resident experts in his field. He was also named Employee of the Year in 2013 for the entire Department of Revenue. Garner ended his career as an attorney at Baird Holm, one of the most prestigious law firms in Omaha. There he worked as a Lobbyist and practiced tax law.

I was privileged to have been Garner’s teacher at Masters School. I was shocked and saddened to read of his passing. I so enjoyed him as a student. He always had a funny story and a twinkle in his eye. I know he will be missed by all who knew and loved him. His soul will be added to my prayer chain. Please accept my deepest sympathy, and know that he will be with you always and you will see him again.

Garner was a student of mine in Civil Procedure at the UNL College of Law, and I remember him fondly. I last had occasion to speak with him at a political event last year and was happy to hear about his professional successes. But now I am saddened to hear about his passing. I extend my deepest sympathies to his family.
