Gary Dwight Younkin
October 11, 1934 – September 11, 2022
Gary was born in Wichita, Kansas to George and Maridell (Bishop) Younkin. He attended high school in Southern California where he lived with his mother Maridell.
At the age of 17 he joined the United States Air Force. Gary loved the Air Force and was proud of his service. He started out as an Airman Basic, advanced to Technical Sergeant and went to Officer’s Candidate School (OCS). Graduating from OCS in 1962 with the rank of 1st Lieutenant, he advanced through the ranks to Lieutenant Colonel He retired in 1983 from Helincon AB in Athens Greece where he was the Strategic Air Command Maintenance Squadron Commander
with 31 years of service. Following his retirement he owned and operated Gary’s Gym in Spokane, Washington until he moved to Omaha, Nebraska in 1995.
Gary was preceded in death by his mother and father. He is survived by loving wife, Paula (Phillips) of 49 years; son, Mike (Tiffany Hinton); daughter, Tamie Vann (Ken); sisters, Pam McLarty (Danny) and Penny Nichols (Bill); extended family and close friends.
Memorial Service with Military Rites: Thursday, September 29, 2022, 1:00 p.m., West Center Chapel. Interment: Omaha National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers Gary has requested that donations be made to Little White Dog Rescue (LWDR) via his family or directly to LWDR c/o Terry Barker, Treasurer, 7312 Frederick Circle, LaVista, NE 68128.

Worked with Gary from 1978 to 1980 at LGM at SAC Headquarters. Many fond memories. Some day we will meet again in glory land.
