Gary Ray Martin

Gary Ray Martin

May 5, 2023

Gary Ray Martin was born on June 6, 1962 to Jean and Barbara Martin. Raised in Omaha, Nebraska, Gary was the oldest of four children. He attended Hartman Elementary and Nathan Hale Junior High where he was a member of the swim team. Gary also attended Northwest High School.

Following high school, Gary excelled as a machinist at Superior Metal Products where he worked for 12 years. Although health issues eventually limited his mobility, he continued to hone and expand upon the skills he had acquired during his career. In 2005, Gary moved to Peoria, Arizona where he enjoyed the desert climate and the companionship of his dog, Wilson. He outfitted an impressive shop and worked almost daily refurbishing and fabricating all things metal. Despite the challenges he faced, Gary’s work exemplified his craftsmanship and high standard of excellence.

Aside from shop projects, Gary had an appreciation for Westerns, history, and electronics. He earned a certificate in web design from Glendale Community College. Gary loved to read his Bible and came to an abiding faith in Jesus Christ later in life.

Despite his move away from Nebraska, Gary’s relationship with his family was not diminished. A loving son, brother, and uncle, he spoke with family daily and never let a birthday pass without a generous gift and kind words. He was an inspiration to each member of his family and many friends. His sense of humor never wavered.

Gary passed away peacefully on the evening of May 5, 2023, surrounded by his siblings. He was preceded in death by his father, Jean H. Martin. He is survived by his mother, Barbara Martin; siblings: Keith Martin (Regine), Janeen Evans, Diana Johnson (Randal); many nieces and nephews.
