George P. Ireland
February 28, 1962-August 26, 2024
George P. Ireland was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on February 28, 1962. He is survived by Heather, his loving wife of 22 years, Adam, his son, Cara, his daughter, Adam’s wife, Hannah, George’s grandchildren, and a large circle of both friends and neighbors, as befits the kindness he showed every person that he ever came in contact with.
George grew up in Omaha and graduated from Paul VI in 1980. He worked as a long and short haul truck driver, but the passions of his life were bow hunting and fishing. He was so skilled at both of these that he put on workshops at Menards, teaching novices and experienced hunters and fishermen alike. The flies that he tied were in demand, and he created his own small business selling them.
His kindness was not limited to the people that he touched. George once heard sad meowing at a lumberyard and searched for over an hour until he found a tailless cat. He carried the cat home, nursed it back to health, and it became his beloved pet, Lucy Lu. Lucy was only one of the many animals that George saved throughout his life.
After a short and unexpected illness, George passed away painlessly at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He showed the overwhelming kindness of his soul one last time by donating his organs. His spirit lives on in the arms of the Lord, and though the many people he touched. He also lives on in body, through the lives of people that his organs have saved.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Live on Nebraska (3867 Leavenworth Road, Omaha, NE 68105, www.liveonnebraska.org), supporting organ donation, or Feline Friendz of Nebraska, a no kill cat shelter (P.O. Box 641818, Omaha, NE, www.felinefriendz.org).

FUNERAL SERVICE: Thursday, September 12, 11:00AM at West Center Chapel.

To George’s family and friends, I am so sorry for your loss. He was such a good man with a great heart. I did spend quite a few nights in his backyard helping trap some neighborhood cats to be fixed on behalf of Feline Friendz. He cared about those cats like they were his own, and even befriended other wildlife. A racoon and him were besties 😉 May the Lord give blessings and strength to all who loved him.
I am so sorry for your loss Heather
My sincerest condolences to Heather, Adam, Cara and all other beloved family members. George was always a great spirit to have around the work place. He was full of fishing stories and loved updating me on his grand babies. He has been and will be greatly missed.
My sincere condolences to Heather and George’s entire family. He was a good hearted, kind sole and a very much cherished friend. I will miss him always and keep his spirt with me.
So sorry for your loss Heather, if you need anything; were just across the street.
