Geraldine V. “Geri” Hutchens
Feb 14, 1943 – Jan 13, 2017
Age 73 of Omaha, left this life to be with our Heavenly Father on January 13th. Geraldine was beautiful, bright, and had an amazing, strong faith. She made a positive impact on virtually everyone she met. She was a kind, generous and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother, and a loyal and understanding friend to many. Geraldine was born on February, 14, 1943, to Adolph and Elma Cerny (Donald Bart) in Rogers, NE. She grew up on a farm near Howells, where she spent her childhood and attended Howells High School. Geraldine had a successful career working at Little Audrey’s in Fremont and later at Werner Enterprises in Omaha and Dillard’s in the Oak View Mall. Her children and grandchildren were the center of her life. She was at her happiest when all of her family was together, and she sought to make their lives a joy. Geraldine was an active and beloved member of Mary Our Queen Catholic Church in Omaha. Her family and friends heartbrokenly rallied around and for her during her illness. Geraldine was known to all as an unselfish, thoughtful, never-judging person who was a great listener and trusted confidante. Even while she was fighting metastatic breast cancer, Geri put her family and friends first, and loved going to work with and bringing treats for her Dillard’s “family” until it became too much.
Survivors include her husband, John H. Ortmeier, whom she married 53 years ago on August 20th in Howells, NE; her mother, Elma Bart; daughter, Rhonda Janky (Greg) and granddaughter, Madison; son, Russell Ortmeier (Sharon) and grandchildren, Austen and Amanda; son, Kevin Ortmeier (Amy) and grandchildren, Sophie and Ellie; sister, Martha Sueper; brother, Larry Cerny (Mary).
