Survived by sons, Peter Bailey (Margaret) of O’Fallon, Illinois, and Karl Bailey of Omaha; daughter, Kimberly Reefe (Patrick) of Gretna, Nebraska; grandchildren: Abby Bailey, Christopher Bailey (Kelsi), Maxwell Reefe, and Jake Reefe; great-grandchildren, Harper Bailey and Aurora Bailey. Memorials to St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church or Nebraska Humane Society.
VISITATION: Monday, June 25th, 5pm to 7pm at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 6116 Dodge St., followed by VIGIL SERVICE at 7pm. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: Tuesday, June 26th at 10am, St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Interment: Calvary Cemetery.

I was an infrequent customer at Gerda’s for many years and attended several of Gerda’s Oktoberfests. I barely knew her and only spoke to her a very few times but, I felt very sad when I heard that she had died, My condolences to her family and to her friends and employees.
For many years
I took my German students to Gerda’s to celebrate Oktoberfest. Gerda would always visit our table to hear us sing “Du du liegst Mir im Herzen” and recite our Tischgebet. The atmosphere, the delicious food, and Gerda’s hospitality gave real meaning to the word Gemuetlichkeit, and a memory we will long cherish. It was a blessing to have her in our midst.
Gerda holds a Special place in my heart. She will truly be missed! Going to see her when I came back to visit Family she was my first stop! I will cherish her memories.

gestern haben wir erfahren, dass Gerda nicht mehr unter uns ist. Wir sind zu tiefst erschrocken über die Nachricht von Gerdas Tod. Wir trauern mit Euch. Gerda wird immer einen Platz in unseren Herzen haben. Sie war eine offenherzige Tante, Schwägerin und Schwester. Der Kontakt nach Deutschland war Ihr sehr wichtig auch nach dem Tod Ihres geliebten Bruder Alfred – meinem Vater. Ihr Wunsch war es, dass dieser Kontakt auch nach Ihrem Ableben nicht abreißt. Wir sind jederzeit für Euch erreichbar.

Back in 2011 and 2012, my wife and I were in Omaha while our youngest son, Hans, was being treated at the University of Nebraska Transplant Center. We were away from our home and friends in Minnetonka, Minnesota. Knowing of our German heritage, some people at the hospital recommended Gerda’s restaurant. We were there on many occasions where we enjoyed the food, pastries, bier, and Gerde’s gracious and welcoming camaraderie. The experiences we memorable to us and to visiting friends and family members, whom we always took to Gerde’s.
We were especially respectful of her custom to provide a meal to anyone who needed on on Thanksgiving.

Gerda befriended my son Blaine Hellman while has was majoring in German at UNO. He spent many hours in her cafe eating, drinking at speaking German. He had his graduation party there and she made his wedding cake. She was always so sweet she is missed.
What I remember most about Gerda is her in Normas hospitality and her extraordinary sense of humor. During our conversations when I lived in Omaha and frequency at her restaurant, she always made me laugh Indeed, not only for Christine, but her wonderful spirit will remain with the people who came into contact with Gerda. May she rest in eternal peace.
I use to work for Gerda when I was a teenager, somehow she knew my Foster mom Arlene Rivera and that’s how I got to work side by side with Gerda she was an amazing woman , she made me laugh and taught me a lot I only found out today that she had passed away 6 days before my birthday I will miss her so much she was truly an amazing woman My condolences to all the family and all her staff I truly know she is watching over you all God Bless.
