Guy D. Strevey

Guy Donald Strevey

March 8, 1932-May 21, 2025

He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene; daughter, Janet E. Bolte; daughter-in-law, Debra L. Strevey; granddaughter, Keri N. (Halvorson) Wilson; mother, Maxine E. Gruse.

He is survived by his children: Richard, Philip (Sara), Melinda (Kurt) Halvorson; grandchildren: Jamie (Jason) Tingelhoff, Josh Bolte, Jessica (Jonny) Waller, Rachel (Victor) Alvarado, Timothy (Dr. Dana Tabor) Strevey, Kristen Strevey, Jonathan (Hannah) Strevey; great-grandchildren: Leif Holum, Theo and Emma Tingelhoff, Vico, Sam and Isaiah Alvarado.

Guy was born near Norton, KS and lived most of his youth with his grandparents on a dairy farm just east of Norton.  His chores on the farm included milking cows before heading to the one room schoolhouse he attended, followed by milking more cows after school.  In addition, he would help sell and deliver milk to various customers.  Dad excelled in many things, including singing, fishing, hunting pheasants with the .22, but his real passion was sports.  He excelled in wrestling and Norton had a very good coach and team, and dad was a two-time Kansas HS state wrestling champion.  This was in the day when there were no size classifications of the schools, so a wrestler from small town Norton had to wrestle against those from much larger schools.  His prowess in both wrestling and football, provided scholarships to attend Oklahoma A & M (later to be named Oklahoma State University).  Yes, the OSU Cowboys, who also had an excellent wrestling team.  Guy wrestled all 4 years, qualified for nationals, and tried out for the Olympics.  Dad also played football at OSU for 2 years.

During his time in college, he fell in love with a cute little Chi Omega, Irene, and they were married Nov. 7, 1953, beginning a 70-year love affair. Guy began a career in life insurance and later expanded into more advanced financial services, achieving his CLU, CHFC, and CFP.  Settling in our house in 1962 in Omaha, which they lived for almost 64 years, dad was a General Agent for Penn Mutual.  Both mom and dad gave us children strong Christian values and made sure we were regular attendees of Hillcrest Baptist Church, and later, Westside Baptist.  Both mom and dad were believers in our Savior, Jesus Christ, and we know they are with Him in Heaven.  They both served the churches in different ways, mom being in the church office and nurseries for decades and dad serving on many, many committees, served as a deacon of the church and was an active member of Gideons international.  It was not their actions, or works that ensured their salvation, but that they prayed to receive Christ as their Savior and put their faith in Him.  God is so good, and we celebrate this promise of eternal life in Heaven.

The products of their marriage and love were four exceptional children, Rick, Janet, Phil and Melinda.  They loved spending time with our families and their grandchildren.  We were blessed to have Irene and Guy as our parents, and we thank you all for coming to honor our father today.
