Harlon A. Hain

Harlon A. Hain Col. USAF (Ret.) October 13, 1926 ~ November 23, 2016 Age 90 Harlon was born in Mt. Vernon, Missouri, October 13, 1926 to Alex and Lily Florence Hain. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Marian Florence, Martha Viola and Emma Marie. Survived by wife Virginia (Ginger) Lee and brother, John Calvin (Melitta) Hain, also children Thomas Harlon, Alesa Virginia (Bill) Momerak and Adam Alexander (Danielle) Hain and grandchildren Mickaela Marie Hime, Paige Haley Momerak, Drake Alexander and Trevor William Hain. Harlon attended Missouri University, where he was a member of the Alpha Gamma Sigma Fraternity. He later received advanced degrees from the College of St. Mary’s and Embry Riddle University. He joined the Army Air Corps following high school graduation and later served in the USAF, retiring in 1981. Flying was his line of duty and his passion all the years of his life. During his lifetime he had the opportunity to fly countless different models of aircraft but none as special to him as the SR-71. He shared this passion with many flying students and the Young Eagles. He was employed by Northrop Grumman for a 20 year career while also serving as an instructor pilot and flying in air races, including one that took him around the world in his 310. Harlon also found great satisfaction in his involvement in the Academic Decathlon and the Make-A-Wish air races. A positive attitude served him well in his association in the Optimist International Club. Harlon was a lifelong member of the QB’s and Daedalions organizations. He received special recognition for his 32 years of service on the Cheyenne Frontier Days Grounds Committee. Memorials to the Strategic Air and Space Museum in Ashland, NE.
