Harry “Dale” DeLong

Harry “Dale” DeLong, Omaha, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on Sunday December 26, 2021.
Dale was born in Peru, Iowa on May 29, 1930, to Harry and Garland DeLong. He grew up on a farm in rural Madison County near Truro, Iowa. Dale attended and graduated from Truro High School, where he met the love of his life, Waunita Palmer. The two were married on June 5, 1949.
They immediately moved to Omaha where Dale launched his 50 plus year career as a carpenter and homebuilder throughout eastern Nebraska and the Omaha metro area. Thousands of homeowners have benefitted from his honesty, craftsmanship and integrity.
Dale cherished his time with family. He also had a strong connection with nature and loved hunting, fishing and nearly every outdoor sport or activity. In his younger years he pitched for the Ralston Lions semi-pro baseball team and later enjoyed handicapping horse races. He also loved traveling and went on numerous trips with his wife and family that canvassed the US and North America.
Preceded in death by parents, Harry and Garland DeLong; sisters, Dorothy Porter and Helen Blackford. Survived by best friend and loving wife of 72 years, Waunita DeLong; children, Tom (Bonnie) DeLong and Sue (Tim) Werner; grandchildren: Kelly (James) Bennett, Kevin (Val Collett) DeLong, Jason Sand, Stacey (Robb) Mundell; great-grandchildren: Cooper Bennett, Trey, Conner, and Lily Mundell.
The family will receive friends Monday, January 3rd from 10am to 11am followed by CELEBRATION OF LIFE at 11am, all at West Center Chapel. Interment: Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Aunt Wuanita, Tom and Sue, I am saddened to hear of Uncle Dale’s passing. I always enjoyed visiting with him and listening to his contagious laugh. He will be missed!

Aunt Waunita, Tom and Sue – My love, thoughts, and prayers reach out to you and yours – God gained a true angel – Uncle Dale will truly be missed – it seams like yesterday, we were all gathering around Aunt Wanda’s or Aunt Libby’s dining room and kitchen at Christmas and/or Thanksgiving – laughing, playing cards, sharing stories and most of all making wondering memories – that I will long cherish
Sorry Rita and I can/t be with you at this time. Many great memories of my uncle. Thank you Sue and Tim for bringing your parents to our home on your trip to the Carolinas. Our prayers are with you in this tough time.
