June 23, 1930 – January 20, 2024

Harry D. Swanson, age 93, was born to Harry and Lillian Swanson in Lyons, NE, on June 23, 1930. He died in Omaha, NE, on January 20, 2024.

Harry was a proud Marine that served in the Korean War. He was a survivor of the Battle of Chosin Reservoir and is one the “Chosin Few,” a name given to the survivors of that battle. He was honored to participate in the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., in October of 2013, where they visited Arlington National Cemetery and other service-related memorials. Visiting the Korean War Memorial was his favorite stop. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed traveling, playing cards, watching all sports, and cheering on the Cornhuskers!

Harry was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, Joyce Swanson; his parents; grandson, Cliffton Wagoner; and son-in-law, Carter Leeka.

Harry leaves behind his loving family: daughter and husband, Steve and Connie Vail; son and wife, Greg and Deb Swanson; daughter, Kim Wagoner; daughter and husband, Pam and Steve Lemkau; grandchildren that were blessed to call him Grandpa: Chad and Mary Vail, Brandon and Bailey Vail, Stephanie Vail and Pete Winterscheidt, Jessica and Aaron Myers, Dana and Raul Ramirez, Becca and Andrew Hasebrook, Justin Wagoner, Megan Wagoner, Lauren Wagoner & Clint Dale, Jenna and David Krumland, Ally Lemkau and Kara Lemkau. Harry was blessed with 14 great-grandchildren: Kayla Wagoner, Aunika Wagoner, Creigh & Logan Dale, Colson & Stirling Vail, Lucy, Charlie & Simon Hasebroock, Leo & Emelia Myers, Holden & Theo Krumland, and Hazel Vail Winterscheidt; loving sisters, Mary Johnson of Atlanta, Georgia, and Karen Lidstrand of Omaha; many nieces and nephews.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE: Saturday, June 1, 2024, 10:00 a.m., West Center Chapel, 7805 West Center Rd.

    Sending my thoughts and prayers to all of the Swanson family. I have great memories of Harry and his funny lines. Our families had many good times together.
